The tendency for some composers to begin to look back for inspiration at a later stage of their career has been mentioned ( neo classicism, return to tonality ) There's a similar tendency to look back with ageing rock performers whose output gets more and more rootsy and stripped down, whether their roots be folk, blues, country or whatever.
