I certainly saw Burt Bachrach conduct Marlene Dietrich in Concert at the Edinburgh Festival, 1964 (Lyceum Theatre - late night) and at the Queen's Theatre - where else? - Shaftesbury Avenue, a couple of months later.   Lordy knows what was going on between them, off-stage, but Marlene's closing comments spoke of her dedication to him:    "I wish, too, that I could say that he was my composer, but I can't; he was everyone's composer and I can't love him any more than I do now  - and his name is B-U-R-T  B-A-C-H-A-R-A-C-H, rapped out with the same astonishing power which Nadal brought to his tennis racquet last Sunday.    He looked rather dishy in his white DJ and both them were mobbed by a bevy of young men, wearing green carnations, in the Stalls aisles.   This concert was recorded and is available on CD, including Dietrich's comments throughout.

I'm a B&D lover, too.  An incredible catalogue of songs.

Becker and Fagen, yup! Difford and Tilbrook, for sure.  But why allow Lennon and McCartney into such august company.  They couldn't write songs to save their lives (and, let's not forget, they once managed to rhyme 'present' with 'peasant'!). Angry

And there's a chance to see Burt Bacharach himself in action on 22 October at the Roundhouse, Chalk Farm.
