a different outlook and a different set of values from what many of us are used to
Boo hoo. Poor Sydney Grew! A stroke of luck he's got people to stand up for his wretched, sorely misunderstood self. You're a true hero, tinners.
I do take seriously the issue of a man's music vs that man's politics. But I've already said what I had to say. The rest of you can bash it out amongst yourselves.
Sydney Grew doesn't need me to stick up for him. But the issue of whether people fall back on to a caricatured manner of reading the posts of people they're temperamentally inclined to disagree with is of broader relevance on a board like this (and indeed in so-called real life).

Mr Grew,
You may, like me, have missed the spam thread. I can now appreciate that the mods may just be a tad busy.
Please do not hold yourself to your hour deadline. I am sure the mods will come to a sensible conclusion when they can.

I would like to support Member Thompson's suggestion.

I think post 106 is unnecesarily personal and rude. I think you should apologise pim_derks.

I said what I wanted to say. I leave the matter now in the hands of the Moderation Team. Whatever the outcome of that will be, I will not object to it. This will be my last post on this thread.

Having only just come back to this sad thread, I have to say that your posting #106 was a disgrace. This is supposed to be a civilized forum in which mature people interact in a meaningful way and offer thoughts and insights relating to topics to which they wish to contribute. Your posting was not only completely nothing to do with the topic, but was also highly offensive not only to Mr Grew but also to those others of us who read it. Baz

If I may just step in here again, albeit at the risk of repeating myself. The Moderation Team have received several complaints about the posts in question. We have now responded to those who have complained, we have contacted Pim, indicating that he may wish to reconsider/edit those comments that have caused offence. We are now waiting for a reply. In the meantime, I don't really see that anything is to be gained from stamping on the same ground and churning it up. This matter will be dealt with. Could I please just ask for a little patience? Because we are still trying to fend off the spammers behind the scenes.
Thanks Mort and Co

Early this morning we asked the moderators of this message board to remove message 79, because it is gratuitously insulting.
Message 79, authored by richard barrett, is not in the least insulting. Perhaps the complainant meant message 80, which asserts that he/she is an elderly female cat. ["Cat" being a slang term found among aficionados of jazz, it is quite understandable that the complainant might feel insulted, given his/her views on that genre expressed here and at TOP.]

You've got it wrong, there, Bryn; look again. 79 was the post SG meant. 80 is by yr truly. Not that it matters. We have reached what looks like an impasse. For the record, I hope SG doesn't quit the place.

Me too. But, Sid, I do think you should take a leetle step back and understand that you can't just be all patrician and goading on the one hand, and then expect Mods and/or others to leap to your beck and call when once in a while your fur gets ruffled. Have a Pimms! Usually works. (Oh, and some people did actually did mean to wish you a happy birthday the other day.)

I feel sure SG would be quick to concur that he was in error with his numbering, and will, of course, be equally quick to apologise to richard for the wrongful accusation.
