I've been listening to a CD of contemporary viola music by Paul Silverthorne and John Constable, and I'm particularly struck by Tiensuu's Oddjob.

What will the sequel be called? Pussy Galore?

(Though ... my favorite piece on the disc is the Sciarrino De o de do, I think.)
Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that. Must put that CD on soon.

We have found silly and pretentious names for a piece of music to be a reliable indication of its lack of substance.
How interesting.

Come to think of it, I have found silly and pretentious posting styles to be a reliable indication of a lack of discursive substance. Grin

Yeah, I can't really see at all how anyone might misinterpret your posts as personal, ad hominem attacks.

Hello? I'm practically quoting him word for word! If he can give, he can take too.

From the deep recesses of r3ok a thread is revived

Listening to the sickeningly jaunty 2nd movement of the piano concerto "Mind" (obviously a live recording)
with Juhani Lagerspetz, piano, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, cond. Susanna Mälkki
Also taking in the other movements, but this one prompted me to post.

Despite "sickeningly jaunty" and a soundworld belonging to the ECM new series, this is an extremely well-made piece. Perhaps the fact that it doesn't appeal to me speaks in its favor?

Anyone here familiar with Jukka Tiensuu's musica ambigua? Anyone interested to hear it and discuss with me?

EDIT: does anyone speak Finnish?

Musica ambigua, ”Epämääräistä musiikkia”, on Tiensuun laajin kokonaisuus historiallisille soittimille.

Here's my attempt at a translation:
Musica Ambigua, epidermal music, on Tiensuu's lying coconuts of historical simile. A sicko, certainly, ate a civil popcorn-ham tomato with rajah N.S., historicizing certain nickle-music valleys: the theme is modern baroque and hoosegow music, muttering and musky nickle-music, a joke about tight tomatoes, pitted ontologies, [and] subtle methodists.
