I can't!  Sad

But I could. Cheesy

I can............still. Don't know what all the "can" and "can't" posts indicate, except that the dancing feet certainly haven't been lost forever.

Thank you so much for all the responses and my apologies for not coming back sooner. I, or rather my computer teacher, did a disk clean-up and a defrag on Wednesday, and by the time of sending on my post, it looks as if it must have been after that. I am sorry I have no idea on which drive the picture is on my computer; but it is in 'My Pictures' section of 'My Documents'.
I wonder why it can still be seen on some computers but not on others .. but am not asking for an explanation, because I'm sure I wouldn't understand it!

P.S. The user names and passwords of the other (six) forums I go to had gone too, but where there are avatars (on three) they were still there. I will make sure I keep coming back to look here during the weekend.

ETA - Just in case anyone doesn't know - they are not my feet ...
...and a further edit (9:15 a.m.) while going through the 'General' board to say that Matthewleeknowles' avatar is just a small square with a smaller square inside with an X in it.

Oh yes, and another thing I've just remembered - the computer did an up-date of something because I noticed that the hour glass flickered on and off, a small window appeared in the middle of the screen and then it turned itself off. I happened to notice this while having a cup of tea nearby!
(End of edits, I think!)

It looks like the picture has gone, but people can see it because it is still in their computers cache. (Tbhat would be my guess.)

If someone who can see it can save the picture, I'm sure we can get it put on the photo account and restored.

Yes, the link to your pic seems to have expired, Susan. You may have to find some other tap shoes. How about these?

It depends how often your cache is cleared down. I use Firefox almost all of the time but I did find these in my IE cache, anyone lost them? Grin

martle, that is the most amazing picture! Thank you for finding it. However, at my advanced age, it is maybe just a teensy bit, OTT?! May I think about that for a week or two?
I'm actually in the process of learning how to make my own web site and I have put the original picture at the top of the page, but I think it is going to cause some confusion, so at next tap class one of the other tappers is going to take a picture of my own feet ... this might give a more realistic idea of me.

Don B, that was magic! Cheesy

Can you now find the lost chord?

Seated one day at the organ,
I was weary and ill at ease,
And my fingers wandered idly
Over the noisy keys.

I know not what I was playing,
Or what I was dreaming then;
But I struck one chord of music,
Like the sound of a great Amen.

It flooded the crimson twilight,
Like the close of an angel's psalm,
And it lay on my fevered spirit
With a touch of infinite calm.

It quieted pain and sorrow,
Like love overcoming strife;
It seemed the harmonious echo
From our discordant life.

It linked all perplexéd meanings
Into one perfect peace,
And trembled away into silence
As if it were loth to cease.

I have sought, but I seek it vainly,
That one lost chord divine,
Which came from the soul of the organ,
And entered into mine.

It may be that death's bright angel
Will speak in that chord again,
It may be that only in Heav'n
I shall hear that grand Amen.

Don Basilio
Thank you very much for finding the photo. I've had a look at the place in my profile where the picture can be changed, but would appreciate someone giving me instructions - sort of words-of-one-syllable type! - so that I can have a go at putting the picture back in position.

Andy D

My father, who had a fine baritone voice, used to sing that song sometimes. It is a pity that he had stopped any involvement with choirs etc before I was born. I was the only one of my siblings to sing but he did not encourage joining groups - I think he must have had some bad experiences somewhere along the line. That didn't stop me singing though!

The Lost Chord -  Arthur Sullivan wrote it while attending the death bed of his brother, Fred, who created the role of the Judge in Trial by Jury.  I am using up my stock of Gilbert and Sullivan trivia in this place.  It has to be said that The Lost Chord even in its own day was considered very sentimental...

Susan Doris - I will take you through the steps later if someone more computer literate doesn't do so first.

SD,

The picture is back in position.

Instructions on how to change, for future, look at what I pasted in your Forum Profile Information, in the "I have my own pic" field, hopefully looking at that field is easier than me explaining  Smiley

Seated one day at the organ,
I was weary and ill at ease,
(not the best state or frame of mind in which to practise, surely?)
And my fingers wandered idly
Over the noisy keys.
(they should really get that technician in to sort the action out)

I know not what I was playing,
Or what I was dreaming then;
(ah! - subconscious improvisation; come on, Richard, what's your take on this?)
But I struck one chord of music,
Like the sound of a great Amen.
(that sounds more like a found chord to me)

It flooded the crimson twilight,
Like the close of an angel's psalm,
(ooh - I bet it must have been a Messianic chord...)
And it lay on my fevered spirit
With a touch of infinite calm.
(music therapy? - crimson chords to assuage 'flu, anyone?...)

It quieted pain and sorrow,
Like love overcoming strife;
It seemed the harmonious echo
From our discordant life.
(well, it surely lent a whole new raft of connotations to "functional harmony")

It linked all perplexéd meanings
Into one perfect peace,
And trembled away into silence
As if it were loth to cease.
(what? - on its own accord, without the player even operating the swell pedal?...)

I have sought, but I seek it vainly,
That one lost chord divine,
(ah, OK, I get it now - you found it but subsequently lost it; you ought to have written it down - a mistake I've made all too often myself, albeit not specifically with "lost chords")
Which came from the soul of the organ,
And entered into mine.
(how remarkably the "Spatial Music" thread has here been anticipated!)

It may be that death's bright angel
Will speak in that chord again,
It may be that only in Heav'n
I shall hear that grand Amen.
i](well, if you do, make sure that you write it down then - and why is "heaven" spelt "Heav'n", anyway?)[/i]

The obviously sad circumstances of Sullivan's brother's impending death notwithstanding, I cannot be sure quite what motivated him to choose this in particular to set, but I suppose that, especially on this day, it might be salutary to warn anyone hoping to laugh all the way to the bank to ensure that they first choose a bank that's not about to be taken into "temporary public ownership" like Northern Rock of Ages cleft for (or more likely against) the taxpayer...

I seem to remember Jeremy Dibble going on at some length on that poem.
His principal thrust being that it's not really a chord but that 'progression' or 'cadence' just don't scan as well.
Note that it's a 'chord of music', not any other kind (a 'chord of marmalade'?).
