When you want to listen live, you have to click on the Streaming symbol, it is the fourth symbol under the word Programmvorschau on the top of the page. Wink

Success! Thank you. I turned it on early and there was some very strange music on prior to the concert! but I enjoyed listening to the concert. I did not understand the German announcer, but there was quite a smattering of French in amongst it which I could.

I continue to be amazed at the things one can do on the internet, like tuning in to radio stations like that.

Unfortunately, there wasn't the chance of hearing the end of the concert! Lili Boulanger was a wonderful song composer. If you like these kind of songs, please try out Charles Koechlin's output in this field:

http://www.amazon.com/Koechlin-Vocal-orchestra-Libor-Sima/dp/B000E1P26C/ref=sr_1_1/104-3592262-5739113?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1175430397&sr=8-1

The music prior to the concert was a live surround concert featuring jazz and world music. The beautiful Three Pieces for Cello and Piano after the first set of songs were by Lili's sister Nadia, by the way. I really like the first piece because I heard it earlier in a movie or documentary or television commercial.

Does anyone know where this music has been used earlier?

You can listen to an excerpt on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Memoriam-Lili-Boulanger-Catherine-Marchese/dp/B000004620/ref=sr_1_3/104-3592262-5739113?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1175430012&sr=1-3

It is excerpt 15. The performance last night was a lot better!

While looking for some facts about the photographer Ré Soupault, I found out that her husband, the writer Phillip Soupault, wrote the libretto for Germaine Tailleferre's opera La Petite Sirčne, based on Hans Christian Andersen's tale The Little Mermaid. The work was broadcast on French National Radio in 1959. I don't know if there's a recording of the work available.

I phoned HMV as soon as  I read your post to enquire about the opera, but no answer, so I'll try again tomorrow.

I bought a CD of 'Les Six' (CDA67204 hyperion 23 tracks with Emily Beynon, flute and Andrew West, piano.) and have listened to it several times. There are three pieces by Germaine Tailleferre which I think have a sort of dreamy quality. Certainly it is a very pleasing CD.

The dates of the various compositions are from 1930s - 1970s, so do not relate to the time when they were designated as 'Les Six' apparently.

Interesting! I see that the Forlane for flute and piano is one of the pieces on that disc: it's a lovely little piece of music.

No CD of 'La Petite Sirčne' HMV tell me, but I have ordered another CD by Germaine Tailleferre which includes a piano concerto, so I shall be interested to hear that.
