I am in success room today because today my student played the last installment of Db Nocturne by Chopin. We have been working on it since January, adding little sections.
Now we have to perfect the performance. The student is amazing. He is about 43 and has been playing for 1 year.

I am so happy we are at the end of the piece. I did not think we will make it. But now I know that he is going to play that piece to the end. He plays it really well. And this is withough playing scales, short and long arpeggios, stupid studies etc etc etc.

I once went for a interview at a school and at lunchtime the other teachers (all male) could only talk about pupils' sport. Can't you talk about something else other than little boys' games in this all-adult company, I thought. So I can understand if what I'm going to say below sounds like that.

I spent this afternoon on a windy, overcast playing field with a stopwatch in my hand. It was sports day (no bank holiday for us). My house (and it is MY house, being the head of it, oh yes - show some respect!) was in last position out of four with only the relay races left. The reds ran their socks off, boys and girls from 9 to 18. How sweet it was to see Oswald House coming up on the inside track each time. (It also helped that some other teams got disqualified.) And overall we won. WE WON!
