My heart is sad and lonely
For you I sigh, for you dear only
Why haven't you seen it
I'm all for you body and soul
I spend my days in longin'
And wondering why it's me you're wronging
I tell you I mean it
I'm all for you body and soul

I can't believe it
It's hard to conceive it
That you turn away romance
Are you pretending
It looks like the ending
Unless I could have one more chance to prove, dear

My life a hell you're making
You know I'm yours for just the taking
I'd gladly surrender myself to you body and soul

Got what I got the hard way
And Ill make it better each and every day
So honey dont you fret
Cause you aint seen nothing yet

Play it steve!
Im a soul man
Im a soul man

I learned how to love before I could eat
I was educated from good stock
When I start lovin I just cant stop

Well grab the rope and Ill pull you in
Give you hope and be your only boyfriend
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I wanna be Bobby's girl
I wanna be Bobby's girl
That's the most important thing to me
And if I was Bobby's girl
If I was Bobby's girl
What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be

When people ask of me
What would you like to be
Now that you're not a kid anymore?
(You're not a kid anymore)
I know just what to say
I answer right away
There's just one thing I've been wishing for

I wanna be Bobby's girl
I wanna be Bobby's girl
That's the most important thing to me
And if I was Bobby's girl
If I was Bobby's girl
What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be

Each day I stay at home
Hoping that he will phone
But I know Bobby has someone else
(You're not a kid anymore)
Still in my heart I pray
There soon will come the day
When I will have him all to myself

I wanna be Bobby's girl
I wanna be Bobby's girl
That's the most important thing to me
And if I was Bobby's girl
If I was Bobby's girl
What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be
What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be

(Nothing personal, BobbyZ Grin  But since you were offering a truckload of loving, it seemed only polite somehow.)

But since you were offering a truckload of loving, it seemed only polite somehow.

A rhetorical offer sadly....as a link here's Bobbie Gentry

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered out the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet"
And then she said "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge"
"Today Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

'n' Papa said to Mama as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well Billy Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits, please"
"There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"
'n' Mama said it was shame about Billy Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

'n' Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece-a apple pie, you know it don't seem right"
"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge"
"And now ya tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

'n' Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"
"I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite"
"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today"
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way"
"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge"
"And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
'n' Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Note: no intention of racism posting this 'southern' song from 1933, the lyric is just historically authentic.

John W

The lazy sun is shining and my heart's at ease;
I can hear sweet music in the morning breeze;
Folks can stay in bed 'till anytime they please;
'Cause it's Sunday down in Caroline.

Now there's four and twenty hours set aside for play;
And the cotton is forgotten down in good old Dixie way;
And heaven comes a calling every seventh day;
'Cause it's Sunday down in Caroline.

Church bells will be ringing Hallelujah; Hallelujah, come and pray;
Darkies will be singing so peculiar; singing their sins away.
Love don't have to wait until the evening time;
There's no work to keep me from that gal of mine;
And I'll be off to meet her when the church bells chime;
It's Sunday down in Caroline;

Oh! folks, it's wonderful to be in Caroline on Sunday. So peaceful.

In my mind I'm goin to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin to Carolina in my mind

Karen she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin
Watch her watch the mornin come
A silver tear appearing now I'm cryin
Ain't I goin to Carolina in my mind

There ain't no doubt it no one's mind
That loves the finest thing around
Whisper something warm and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm dyin
Ain't I goin to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin to Carolina in my mind

Dark and silent last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I going, going
I'm goin to Carolina in my mind

With a holy host of others standing round me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin to Carolina in my mind

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

I said Georgia, Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

I said Georgia, ooh Georgia
No peace I find
Just this old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

I've always wondered about this song. Can you answer any of the questions it triggers?

Hi MabelJane

I think the wikipedia entry is about as comprehensive a discussion as you will get about the song.

Anyway, back to the associations....from Georgia on my Mind to the "Georgia Peach" and the most literary lyric on this thread.

Awop-bop-a-loo-mop alop-bam-boom
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Awop-bop-a-loo-mop alop bam boom

I got a girl, named Sue,
She knows just what to do
I got a girl, named Sue,
She knows just what to do
I rock to the east, She rocks to the west, but
she's the girl
That I love best.

Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Awop-bop-a-loo-mop alop bam boom

I got a girl, named Daisy,
She almost drives me crazy
I got a girl, named Daisy,
She almost drives me crazy
She knows how to love me ,
Yes indeed
Boy you don't know,
What she's doing to me

Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Awop-bop-a-loo-mop

(Saxophone solo)

Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Awop-bop-a-loo-mop alop bam boom

Got a girl, named Daisy,
She almost drives me crazy
Got a girl, named Daisy,
She almost drives me crazy
She knows how to love me ,
Yes indeed
Boy you don't know,
What she's doing to me

Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Tutti Frutti, aw rutti
Awop-bop-a-loo-mop alop bam boom

When I was young
I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs When they played I'd sing along
It made me smile.

Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well.

Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.

When they get to the part
Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more.

Lookin' back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed.

It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away.

Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.

All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry.
Just like before
It's yesterday once more.

Martle, you pipped me to the post! I was hunting around for the lyrics to 'I've Got A Gal In Kalamazoo' - in vain ... It's a conspiracy! They're nowhere to be found on the web!

Daddy's takin us to the zoo tomorrow,
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow
Daddy's takin us to the zoo tomorrow
And we can stay all day!

Chorus:
We're goin to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin to the zoo, zoo, zoo.

See the elephant with the long trunk swingin
Great big ears and a long trunk swingin
Snuffin up peanuts with a long trunk swingin
And we can stay all day!

(chorus)

See all the monkeys they're scritch-scritch scratchin
Jumpin around and scritch-scritch scratchin
Hangin by the long-tail (huff huff huff)
And we can stay all day!

(chorus)

There's a big black bear he's a huff-puff-a-puffin
His coat's too heavy he's a huff-puff-a-puffin
Don't get too near the huff-puff-a-puffin
Or you won't stay all day!

(chorus)

Well the seals in the pool all honk-honk-honkin
Catchin the fish and honk-honk-honkin
Little tiny seals all honk-honk-honkin
And we can stay all day!

(chorus)

Well we stayed all day and Im gettin sleepy
Sittin in the car gettin sleep sleep sleepy
Home already gettin sleep sleep sleepy
cause we have stayed all day.

We been to the zoo zoo zoo

Mommy's takin us to the zoo tomorrow!
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow!
Mommy's takin us to the zoo tomorrow
And we can stay all day!

(chorus)

Sorry! Couldn't resist!  Cheesy

Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

In Spain, the best upper sets do it
Lithuanians and Letts do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the Finns
Folks in Siam do it - think of Siamese twins

Some Argentines, without means, do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Romantic sponges, they say, do it
Oysters down in oyster bay do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish, do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Electric eels I might add do it
Though it shocks em I know
Why ask if shad do it - Waiter bring me
 "shad roe"

In shallow shoals English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

In old Japan, all the Japs do it
Up in Lapland little Laps do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it
Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

The world admits bears in pits do it
Even Pekingeses at the Ritz do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Dragonflies in the reeds do it
Sentimental centipedes do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Mosquitos, heaven forbid, do it
So does every katydid do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

The most refined ladybug do it
When a gentleman calls
Moth in your rugs do it
What on earth, what's the use of balls?

The locusts in the trees do it
Why, even the bees do it
Even over-educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

I'm sure the giraffes on the sly do it
Heavy  hippopotami do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Sloths who hang down from the twigs do it
Though the effort is great
Sweet guineapigs do it
Buy a couple and wait

Let's do it........... let's fall in love!
