Whenever i feel troubled with something bugging me need ultra positive music and
Beethovens Eroica works every time - Prokofiev's 5th is pretty good too........ Smiley
Prokofiev 5! Excellent idea. Even though it isn't an emergency.

On it goes...

I am surprisingly ( or not , I suppose!) really enjoying Shostakovitch at the moment... string quartets ... especially no 8, the 'cello concerto and piano quintet... glorious stuff!!

And the Lindsays on late Beethoven, particularly the Lydian Danksagung.
Er, when I was at school we called it Dankgesang - has scholarship changed its mind?
A distinction reserved for anoraks.

In my worse moments (of which I surely have plenty) I could almost imagine one member here (who shall remain nameless) suggesting the music of a certain composer (who shall likewise remain nameless but whose brief association with Chingford is not unknown) as being more suited to causing, rather than dealing with, an emergency (and for the avoidance of doubt I stress that I refer here to a deceased composer and not to a living one...)

Best,

Alistair

the Salomons' Haydns are all out of print and when they're available at all cost between €20 and €91.43 per disc.

Time for a probably pointless letter to info@hyperion-records.co.uk...

Hm. This from Simon Perry:

Thank you for your email.
We have no plans at the moment to re-issue the Salomon Haydn's on Helios.
If you are looking for a particular recording that has been deleted we can create
an archive white label copy and supply together with the printed parts where available
for a cost of £13.99 inclusive of all postage and packaging costs.
Is this something that would be of interest?

I'll have to think about that.

All praise to Hyperion for offering the service, though: if only certain other labels would follow suit...

I prefer a copy from my "local" library. A lot cheaper.
