Yikes! For the first time, I'm in a quandary about whether to go for a season ticket or not. I'm broke anyway.

Pint of mild and bitter as usual, Richard?'

'No, I'll have a mild und leise please.'

(Ducks behind sofa then realises there is no sofa and jumps on the back of Turfan Fragment who is galloping gaily around the forum, to make his getaway. After twenty minutes looks around and says to TF, 'Turfan, my dear friend, we don't seem to be going anywhere.'

TF: There's no point in talking to me, I can't answer, I'm a green dinosaur and my vocal chords were not designed for speech.

Reply: I'm sorry, I didn't think about that. Look, do you think you could drop me at the nearest sofa?

TF: Sure. As long as it's not sofa that I get tired (ducks behind brontosofa-aurus).)

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

A bus has just passed me with the following inscription: "Bolton via Eccles". Since it was nearly full, I found myself wondering why on earth so many people should want to go to Bolton via Eccles.
