ZZZZ.

Night, all. I'm hiding from the world in Wales. Is this the best place to do that?

Sleep well, cyberpals.

I'm not going to bed just yet, although it won't be long, and I'm using this thread as an excuse for a (yawn) moan about what a long and tiring day I've had.

Up at 7. At the Uni by 8.15. Loads of prep. Major orchestration seminar (Berlioz/ Wagner). 'Office Hour' (normally I twiddle my thumbs, but today for some reason hundreds of students decided that they wanted to see me about a range of topics, ranging between compositional constipation and 'boyfriend problems'). Lunch during the office hour (a dull baguette, since you ask) and my considered responses to delicate questions were punctuated by the sound of cheese and rocket being munched. 4 hours of postgrad composers coming in with stuff (mostly very good, but I was starting to wilt). Home. Emails. Emergency phone calls. Asda pizza.

Moan moan moan. Of course, I'm perking up now.  Tongue

A normal working day for a musician is a two-call day (two rehearsals, morning and afternoon, each of 2˝ or 3 hours; or maybe a morning rehearsal and an evening concert). Sometimes we have three-call days when there's no alternative.

But tomorrow I and a few colleagues have a four-call day. Starting with a 9am rehearsal in Köln and ending with a concert in Essen. We get a one-hour break between the second of our rehearsals and the general for the concert but that break will of course be spent travelling. The following day starts with a 9.25am flight to Portugal from Frankfurt (which means leaving Köln before 7); the last rehearsal that day finishes at 11pm. Which is midnight Köln time.

So it's high time I stopped pfaffing around and got myself unconscious or the next couple of days are going to blow goats.

Sweet dreams, all...

I'd like to get an early night, but.... have had a colleague phone to say she's been signed off work for a fortnight, so I've had to sort supply/ work etc, plus have tried to pour oil on troubled waters over a family argument (but may have poured petrol instead)... Undecided

Ollie - jeez!
A couple of years back we had two four-call days in a row: the first two each day in Bonn, the third and fourth in Berlin. That was at a time when flights to and from Tempelhof had thinned out quite a bit but not yet stopped - so we could count pretty well on the planes being reasonably punctual...

Good night.  Smiley  I'm going early tonight.  It's been a heavy day with lots of physical work, moving furniture and spring-cleaning.  (Oh ok, autumn-cleaning then.) There is still a howling gale out there.  It's been all day with no let-up.  Glad we didn't have to go out!

A couple of years back we had two four-call days in a row....

Just a couple of times I've had four-call days in the theatre (although theoretically illegal according to Equity Rules): a kids' show at 10:00 and 14:00 followed by the main show at !7:30 back-to-back with a 20:00: in this case the management got round it by engaging for the two productions on separate contracts, but it was a killer, even for someone in his mid-twenties, and there was no travelling involved.

That needs serious body pampering, Oz, only the best food, plenty of fluids, and worst of all, the least alcohol you can get away with (just when you need it most).

IGI, that sounds very burdensome indeed. I'm sure you'll take it all in your stride, though. Wink

Run out of steam.
Found my CD drive extremely annoying, and then wrestled with pitta breads in order to get them to puff up so that they can be filled without splitting.
At this stage I really need my bed, so night all!
More roast pumpkins for dinner tomorrow, but for tonight I'll be using a pumpkin to transport myself to bed.

Early ones for Eru. A mentally tiring day ahead.
