We cannot stand Berio and cannot stand sopranos, so . . . is it Berio and "Recital I (for Cathy)"?

One of the first LPs I bought was Berio's Sinfonia on CBS which had the magnificent Cathy Berberian on the other side in Visage. Poor SG!

Puzzle 39

I'm half expecting someone to know this straight off. But if not it should provide a little amusement.

In the spirit of nothing ventured nothing gained: Finnissy's From the Relevations (edit: er, "revelations") of St. John the Divine

Nothing so far either corrrect or hintworthy in the proffered answers to puzzle 39. We would suggest that Members might first attempt to identify the singer.

We believe we did in fact solve Mr 1780's Puzzle 38 with our suggestion last night of Baron Britten of Aldeburgh's Illuminations. If not we feel entitled to accuse the actual composer of Mr 1780's snatch of rank plagiarism. Smiley

Puzzle 38 is here!

I love this work!

Baron Britten of Aldeburgh's Illuminations

Not quite up to Blackpool's Illuminations but it's a start and times are hard.

I don't think that Finnissy has been recorded. Has it??!
No, it hasn't (but should be), nor have others of his first acknowledged mature compositions, such as La Dormeur du Val, Horrorzone As when upon a tranced summer night or Transformations of the Vampire, all from around the same time.

I'm going to set a puzzle! No idea what number it is, I'll leave that for SG to work out. This won't do much for my standing in the Alan Davies competition so I'll have to make lots of off-topic posts to compensate Grin

I've turned the volume up a bit but it is a very quiet passage. Also given you a bit more.

Tommo and George: both guesses (Lemminkainen and Pohjola's Daughter) for Puzzle 28 are wrong, sadly, but I think you're both barking up the right boxed set!

Is then Andy's puzzle number 41 Morton Feldman's Piano and string quartet?

Whether it is or isn't, it opened beautifully straight into my Windows Media Player.
