no discernible physical resemblance to A Davies.

Nor, as far as I know, does Richard have an A-level in Media Studies. So that's two strikes.

I think the gent in question spells his name "Alun Davies", which would aid you when Googling.  Basically, a sharpwitted guy who appears a lot on general knowledge tv-quiz shows of a more elevated kind,  does a lot of the research work for Stephen Fry etc.

Never having experienced A Davies' alleged effect, but only seen smudgy pictures of his face in freebies on the bus, I am in no position to judge.   Richard struck me as a perfectly well behaved, articulate, courteous, intellligent and adequately socialised individual at the least.  Can't really ask for much more, can you?

And what's more...three years ago he started sending personal cards (including ornate Christmas cards) to my teenage daughter! What is the world coming to?

Sorry if we are all muddling up our Welsh vowels.

Do you mean

or

http://www.alun-davies.co.uk/

I can still see no resemblance.

He is one of the most irritating men on the planet, for a start. I avoid him wherever possible.

Alan Davies was the compere at The Bear in Bearwood (W Midlands not Berks) when a friend of mine made his last attempt at being a stand-up comedian. After my friend had gone down like a lead balloon, Alan D said "That's odd, he was quite good the last time he was here." Perhaps I just like Alan Davies because he's got the same initials as me?
