Glad you enjoyed it, 'patio. How are things going now, if I may be so bold as to ask?

If I spoke of things hear, it would be rather off-topic. Hoping for an early night; and to try again tomorrow morn (unexpected and early arrival of new laptop last wednesday put a stop to my work again ).

Ooh that is glorious, Ron. Perhaps I really will miss the old planet when it's all over after all.

You must have a very nice nature, t-p. They make me happy in a way, but they also make me rather jealous.
My nephew has got enough A-level points to take him to Aberdeen University! Relief! He's never been very academic.

Well, let's go a mile or so down the road. Still lovely! What vivid colours, Ron. Thanks for all those pictures of yours I've been enjoying, even though I haven't posted comments. Having quite a satisfying sort-out of the filing cabinets in readiness for our impending house-move. Must stop hoarding so much for so long - just found a load of Gas bills from the previous house, dating back to 1989! I need to buy a paper-shredder now - can anyone recommend a good make? Preferably a fairly cheap one!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Have you a LIDL store nearby, M-J? They're doing a great one at the moment, really strong and not at all pricey. It was rather duller today, though every now and again a small patch of sunlight would break through the cloud and light up the landscape:

What are you using to take these, Ron? (So I can be either inspired to try one out myself or consoled by the fact that the mechanical part of the apparatus involved is well out of my range of aspirations... )

As I think you know, Ollie, the South African ones were taken mainly with a 5 meg. Canon Powershot S2 IS; a pretty bog-standard consumer unit, apart from its x12 optical zoom. The last three on this thread were taken with something slightly - but not much - higher up the scale, Canon's bottom-of-the-range Digital SLR, the EOS 400D, using either the very basic lens it came with - an 18-55 - or else a Sigma 75-300 zoom. We're really not talking whacky stuff here, it's just good entry-level. In each case I've cropped the pictures top and bottom, but because of Photobucket strictures I've also had to reduce the image size considerably, so what I've posted doesn't really tell the whole story.
I don't think there's a big secret to the way I take pictures: I just get a feeling that something needs to be taken a certain way, so I'll take it and experiment as well, to see if doing it in a different way works better. In the case of the last one, I was driving along and could see that the bright patch was going to hit the emerald green field sooner or later, and was trying to find somewhere to stop so that I could get a decent shot when it happened - I was lucky....

I find you have to take lots and choose the best, random but with selection. digital makes it cheap

I'm told photographers do tend to make their own luck...
