I quite agree t-is-now, she also goes to Tai chi , U3A and has told me today she has started learning Latin... I give up!!!!

What a great character she must be! But what's U3A?

A, is there not a friend or neighbour with a car that she could travel down with? It would be a shame not to have your ma there.

My father went to U3A until he was almost 94, A, so your mother has a record to match! He didn't do Tai Chi though. Isn't it is great when people keep their brains lively in old age? I think mine's going off already.

I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep tonight - I'm still on a high from a wonderful performance of Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings by Ian Bostridge and Frank Lloyd - amost faultless, conducted by Tod Handley, who had to walk onto the platform using two sticks. I'll probably put something on the Live Concert thread tomorrow.

She also says she doesn't feel she can come to my wedding though as her eyesight is poor and she is worried she will fall... what can I do to convince her or reassure her?
Ask her to be a bridesmaid? Wink

I don't know why I wrote 'broccoli-writing', by the way - very kind of you not to raise your eyebrows! I think I meant 'broccoli-recipe-writing' or something like that ... Undecided

Hi t-p,
Yes, it's not a bad journey from London to Manchester... and everyone please note... it is NOT raining!! (Everyone says it always rains in Manchester t-p!!)

In my experience the place where it always rains is Gloucester. I've never been there when it wasn't raining. That nursery rhyme about Dr Foster who went to Gloucester, in a shower of rain, and stepped in a puddle right up to his middle, and never went there again, acknowledges this fact.

Some years ago, I was doing a job that involved regular trips to Swansea - never seen a place like it for rain.  Even the taxi drivers used to boast that it had the worst climate in Britain ....

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)
