Happy Longest Day All Northern Hemispherists.

In particular to Mary, her son and soon to be daughter-in-law for a happy and celebratory Midsummer Marriage.

I'm still not 100%! (But then you all knew that didn't you?  Grin)

And with firm instructions from Nurse Dugdale to Milly J and Mabel J finally to see off those nasty summer germs.

Ahem.

In case that was at all ambiguous,

It's miserable weather here, but I'm happy. It's been a good couple of days, and Dr Who tonight helped my mood.

I have just had an amazing experience with my computer... ahem, I'll start again -

Norton kept popping up a sign saying it was out of date and it was only a trial period anyway. After a lot of fiddling about without any success I contacted the chat support line. It was the best entertainment I have had for a long time, she took over the cursor and clicked on all the pop up windows etc to take Norton off and reinstall , even when the computer restarted ( at her initiation) she was able to start up Int Explorer and carry on the process... absolutely amazing !!!!

So, a grumpy evening became a happy one !! Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

To do what? To fiddle about with A's computer, or to turn a grumpy evening into a happy one?

Or install Norton?  Wink

This is one for THE NOT WISHING TO TEMPT FATE HAPPY ROOM, but I'm re-reading my thesis in advance of Thursday's viva, and it's not that bad. At least, I'm very pleased with how the structure and pacing has all panned out. God knows about the content ...

Thirded!

Peace at last.  All visitors gone home.  Loads of clearing up to do but otherwise it's been a lovely day (disregarding the weather of course).  Cheesy

I wouldn't put Norton on my PC, it's bound to break it

I had loads of problems with Norton some years ago so I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial barge pole.

I certainly wouldn't let anyone manipulate me remotely Wink

Good luck from me 2 trj

Oh Embarrassed. Bugler. I just paid for a year's worth of Norton only last week when my free AVG subscription ran out (do I mean AVG? something like that anyway). The only reason I changed was because the AVG website wouldn't take my debit card so I chose the line of least resistance. Hmm. Maybe that wasn't a good move. I have noticed that, since then, my PC gets the vapours and says 'Programme Not Responding. It's all too much. I'm going to End It all now' far more often than it used to. Perhaps Norton and I are going to have a difficult year.

Sorry, I should have taken that off to the Grumpette Room rather than spoiling the mood here.

Don't worry George, Ron rates Norton 360 so I'm sure it's OK. It's just that once bitten, twice shy - I had to re-install Windows 3 times IIRC because of Norton.

I use ZoneAlarm as my free firewall, and have done so for years without any problems but the Guardian IT correspondent Jack Schofield has had problems with it so he won't recommend it. We're not always entirely rational when it comes to assessing software eg Firefox v IE, Linux v Windows v Mac

Norton's very good, actually, IMHO (not that I'm any kind of expert on such matters). If you have the 360 version you will occasionally get a funny "Ending Program - ccSvcHst" message when you shut down your machine, but unless it's really bothering you the simplest course of action is just to put up with it and proceed regardless. It doesn't actually do any harm, as far as I can establish, it's just a minor program conflict that hasn't been deblipped.
