St George is the mascot of Moscow, and he turns up all over the place here. This pic is from the World War 2 memorial, and the dragon in this case is covered in Nazi symbolism. WW1 and WW2 took a huge toll on the Russian people. Millions died in defence of Russia in both wars, and they shaped the history of this country as much as they did the rest of Europe.

That's a head-louse, t-p, commonly known as a 'nit'; shown alongside a match head and also unhatched progeny on a human hair.

Now how many of you felt an involuntary need to scratch your head?

I knew it was something like that. However, it is so interesting to see. Louse are people too. May be people will not agree, but it is fascinating to see such a small things.

Doesn't the word "nit" strictly apply to the egg and not the creature itself?

Louse are people too.

In what sense, I wonder.

Lets me rephrase that. How about louse (What is plural of them?) are live's creatures. Or louse are natural wonders too.
I think it sounds good, or does it, Richard?
Congratulations with successful concert. One day I will come to your concert, I know I will.

If we're being specific, yes, it's the egg or young larva - but there is an egg in the picture, so I feel that my use of the link was justified. Unfortunately I have been unable to ascertain the exact age of the louse itself, so whether it scrapes in or not is a moot point, but you're the specialist, r, and I defer to your expert knowledge.  Wink

Here is an illustration of the Three Ages of the Louse

from which we have ascertained that the one illustrated previously is a mature specimen, approaching indeed what passes in lousedom for the prime of life. A lady asks what the plural might be, to which we are pleased to be able to supply the answer lice. Lice are well-known for their admirable adherence to absolute criteria with regard to their preferred abode. Of the two principal species, one is found only in the region of the human head while the other, often confused with certain unrelated crustaceans, has distinctly more racy proclivities.
