Oh dear. All best wishes for getting the trip to the dentist over and done with, Milly and young 'un.

It's always good to have your company, Mary. I'd noticed you hadn't been posting for a few days and it was cheering to see you back again, even if it was in the grump room. Sorry to hear it's a bit of a low patch at the moment. Hold on in there and it will pass. (But I can't help on hats. That is another and mysterious world which men enter at their peril.)

Thank God that's over! Awful.  I'd rather have had it for him than have to watch.  Still he's fine now, two - yes two Nintendo DS games the richer as well!  The tooth fairy will still be paying a visit tonight.  He was a very brave young man.

Now all I've got to do is get my treatment over with.  It's only every 3-5 months and it really does help but still not very pleasant.  I used to have to pay for the treatment.  I had three treatments privately before he decided I was severely enough affected to be put on the NHS list. Now it's free.  Mine's at the hospital at 2 p.m., so I'll drop him off at school after the lunch break and get straight up there.

Mary, I've had a thought about hats - seriously.  I really do have quite a few so if you like I could send some photos to you by email.  If you let me know your size and saw any you liked I could parcel them up and send to you to try on.  Doesn't seem worth paying for one you'll only wear once.

Adblock allows you to block page content by specifying filters consisting of the url but with * as a wildcard eg I include http://ads.guardian.co.uk* so all urls that start with http://ads.guardian.co.uk get blocked. You can switch it on and off if you really want to see something.

There are 2 versions and I'm not altogether clear about the history of this, sounds like 2 development branches. The one I use is Adblock:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10
which seems to do the job fine but there's also Adblock Plus, which I haven't tried but which might be more user friendly and seems to be more popular:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

...but nonetheless, rushing in recklessly where Engels feared to tread, a simple, modest, clean-lined, classic, perhaps ivory or cream coloured hat can be a very elegant and attractive thing in these circumstances, IMVHO.

Interesting you should say that, George, because as it happens I have just such a hat in a box on top of my wardrobe. I last wore it at said son's graduation, over ten years ago. He wouldn't notice, would he?? (Photos might be a problem). I tried it on and somehow it doesn't look quite as nice as it did then. Perhaps the face underneath hasn't improved Sad Sad. It does have a slight mark on it, but I expect a dry cleaner could deal with that.

Milly, that is very sweet of you. I suspect, though, that since I am quite a lot taller than you, my head is quite a lot bigger. Metaphorically, of course, neither of us has a big head.

I'm not so much grumpy as gloomy. Oh, grumpy as well, I suppose. Lethargic, pessimistic, not fit company for anyone, even on a message board.

Same here, I do sympathise Mary (although I am grumpy too)

I'd recommend soap and a flannel Mary, dry cleaning seems a bit drastic Shocked

Thanks Andy - I've installed the last one. It says "Adblock Plus is active", but is not blocking anything! Still, that's fairly typical behaviour from a computer I think.

Best

Have you instructed it to block anything Baz? Computers only do what you, or a hacker, tell them.

Under the tools/Options/content I have checked "Block pop-up menus", and the Adblock Plus button info claims that it is active. I also added the entry "http://r3ok.myforum356.com*" to the Adblock Plus list of sites to block.

But still all I get is pop-up ads. What else must I do?

The ads are from some googlesyndication site not myforum365. Look at list of all blockable elements to find it.

In fact, don't block http://myforum365.com since you won't be able to see much at all! Grin

The ads are actually placed using JavaScript, so another way to stop them would be to use NoScript, which is another Firefox extension I'd recommend, it allows you to control exactly what JS runs on any site.

Jonathan,
why are you grumpy? Is it because of the weather or something is wrong at work?
There is no point to be sad because things change back to normal again. I was so sad with my student going to another teacher. I felt that he did not appreciate me.We became friends, I thought. And he did it in such a hurtful way (wrote me an e-mail).But now after six month it doesn't hurt anymore. The same happened with my viola player three years ago. I came to conclusion that people are not loyal for majority of time and there is no point to be upset about it.

I don't understand this thing - and am going to uninstall it! I can't even work out how to delete the block I've placed on r3ok (which doesn't work in any case). I don't know what it means by selecting from a drop-down menu - the only one I can find is the main Firefox drop-down (which has nothing to do with it).

So we'll just have to stick with the porn then!  Cry

If it weren't for your posting those ads I'd never have seen them Baz! Grin
