Could you mean "To my wonderful wife" rather than  life, John?

Pedantic daughter....my brother recently described me as his "pedantic sister". He can talk - no greater pedant than my brother exists on this earth. He did add "It takes one to know one".

Here's a grump for you all. When will this fad end for posting messages, or parts of them, in very small lettering that cannot normally be read on the screen? What's the point of it? It's just another hoop to jump through. If you don't want your words to be read, don't post them, or send a PM to the person concerned. If it's to hide it from non-members, it doesn't work as you only have to select, copy and then paste the words into somewhere else.  Angry

I took delivery earlier this week of a steam cleaner so that I could give the carpets a deep down blitz and get rid of crud from the outside world that gets stepped over them. It's a pretty simple appliance, no high tech mind boggling detail involved. Will it produce steam? No. I have gone over and over the brochure to see if there's anything that I have missed. I have practically carried out an autopsy on the machine to see if there's a hidden button that I should have pressed. Nothing. I have a horrible suspicion that it's just plain faulty and will have to go back. Sigh. I only wanted to clean the carpets. What I wouldn't give to have the wooden floors from my previous home. Sob.

Now I know this is probably the stupidest question of all time, but you did put water into it, didn't you Mort Wink

Jumping catfish!  Water? To make steam? Amazing what you learn on this board Roll Eyes Cheesy Cheesy

Yes Ants, I did plug it in. And I switched it on, just like Sister Tapioca taught us to do Grin

Thanks Mary,

wife.....   Roll Eyes

She's not even here this weekend, attending an auntie's funeral in New York, I took her to Heathrow on Wednesday, picking her up again on Monday. We live exactly 100 miles from Heathrow, journey down was 1hr 30mins, my return journey was 3 hours  Sad Both M40 and M25 were blocked and my detour took me through Ruislip and Watford to get to the M1  Sad   Oh, what will Monday bring......

I've never seen anything posting in small type that was important or was anything other than a parenthetical comment, and I've always had the policy of reading them only if I had the energy or the time.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that they are postings that you can quite happily ignore, but the time and energy you expend deciphering could be said to add a certain level of fun to proceedings, and if that doesn't float your boat then just ignore them.

Nah, just use the Quote facility.

In Firefox just do CTRL + to increase displayed text size. CTRL 0 returns it to normal

In IE (yeuk) there's a menu based way of increasing text size.

I wish that on days like this, an automatic readout appeared in front of your eyes saying something like: Today will not be your day. Everything and everyone will annoy you. Things will not go your way. Go back to sleep.
Then I could just know that it wasn't worth it and sleep in peace.

I'm having that sort of day as well.  I feel stressed and tense for some reason although I've battled through the local supermarket with child in tow and been very patient with stroppy checkout girl, and out with the dog in cold, blustery conditions, but managed to survive.  Had the usual awful daily duty phone call to my mother and listened to the same old record that is her catalogue of ailments dating back to 1957 and her idolatry of the royal family ("dear Harry coming home bless him") Roll Eyes.  Unfortunately today with the exception of the child, no-one is going to be able to say or do anything right.  I'm just that way out.  Angry

This afternoon some kids decided it would be a nice idea to pelt stones at my living room window. They eventually realised their aim of smashing it.

In the light of recent news stories, I didn't go out to confront them but instead called the police (I was in a real state at the time, and indeed still am). I got two community support officers, who were very sympathetic but didn't seem too helpful. Eventually they found the nine-year-old responsible, and assured me that his mother was giving him a good telling off.

Since then, I've been absolutely churned up with anxiety. A man from the council has just been round and boarded up the window: it will be replaced some time in the coming week, he tells me.

I can't fault the services for speed of response. But I feel quite badly shaken up by the experience, and might put in for a move (I'm a council tenant). Will it be any better elsewhere? I'm not optimistic.

And to add to my woes, I've missed a whole load of tests on the Two- to Sixty-Second thread. Sad

That's awful, opilec. I hope you manage to regain some composure soon.
