That way obsessive/compulsive disoder lies, inks. You use your phone, then have to dial 1471 to see if someone called while you were talking. Then you have to dial 1471 to see if anyone called while you were dialling 1471. Then...

What to do?
The people across the road - I wouldn't call them 'neighbours', - were raided this morning by the Drugs Squad, and LOADS of stuff - powder, paraphenalia etc - was removed from the house.
I've got two small children and, frankly, I don't want drug dealers on my street.
Is there anything i or we, as a community, can do to help push them out of the area? Legally, of course.

I'm waiting for two phone calls.  One I expected to get within half an hour of being promised it yesterday, the other I was told I would get in five minutes at, oh, about 11 o'clock.

I'm rather afraid to actually use my phone for anything in case I should miss them now.

Sometimes I think I would be best with two phones, one incoming, and one outgoing.
Ah, but that still wouldn't solve the problem: you'd be worried about one of the incoming calls coming while you were taking the other one.

Or I would, anyway!

Try turning 'Call Waiting' on (or obtaining it if you haven't already done so)?

inky, if you must, you only give out one number, so all you incoming calls will be on that one, and you make all your outgoing calls on the other.

I get in a horrible pickle when I'm on the mobile and the landline starts ringing.  Or vice versa.

tonybob, about the only thing I can think of is to contact your local Police and ascertain if in fact they were dealing and see what they think about some kind of Neighbourhood Watch scheme being set up?  Of course, if they are dealers and have now been caught they'll probably be banged up.

tonybob, the best I can offer is that the police are obviously on to them. If there was that much stuff in the house they were clearly dealing  and, having been raided, the organisers will probably move on.

Oh, really?  Maybe some reconsideration is in order then.  And: if I had the two phone thing, I think I'd like to block the number for my outgoing phone so as to not let anyone mess up my schemes.  But then...I hate when people block their numbers as well.

Ah, no; horrible invention.  Really, don't like it at all.

I remember, when we got a dial-up internet connection first, anyone who tried to call us up while we were connected was put on call-waiting indefinitely ...

I seem to have run out of money.
To the extent that I can't afford a train ticket to get to see my parents.
I think it's because I haven't realised that even though I've been getting my travel reimbursed for my teaching in D, that doesn't get reimbursed until the end of the month so I've got 5-6 journeys worth owed to me, which has taken a substantial chunk out of my budget that I just haven't factored in... What a moron.

I tried to be clever yesterday and transfer some money to my credit card so that I could buy it on that, but for some reason despite the fact that they are the same bank, (as far as I know) the same branch, and the credit card is supposedly linked to my account, it still takes 3 days for the money to clear.
If I club together my bank account and my credit card I can afford it, but it's not that simple. Got to go to the train station and try to persuade them to accept that... Wish me luck.
If I'm still in Edinburgh this evening, you'll know why...  Undecided
