I think Queneau is the only French author I've read a fair amount of in the original. It was some while ago and quite hard work. At the time I thought that some day I'd get round to reading all or at least a large part of my favourite French literature in French. It just occurred to me that the chances of this happening have in the meantime declined to zero. There's so much stuff out there and life is so short.

That's my rant by the way.

Whenever I read things in French, I always have a German or English translation nearby to ogle. That's why we have two eyes, innit?

An admirable strategy, except that my reason for reading Queneau in French was to get to know the novels which hadn't been translated, of which there are still quite a few, same goes for Pinget and many of the surrealist poets.

Let's have a Queneau thread! That's an anti-grumpy anti-rant!

Maybe the water pressure wasn't high enough to plug in their hydraulic drills? The Catch 22 of water main repair.

Online translators don't quite get there.....

In a right-angled parallelepiped moving along a straight line of equation 84x S=y, a homoïde A introducing a spherical cap encircled with two sinusoïdes, above a cylindrical party of length l> n, introduce a point of contact with a coarse homoïde B. Show that this point of contact is a point of rebroussement

...but enough to let me know I am not really interested. Wink

Oh come on Tommo, it's obvious...  Grin

Back to English via German and Japanese...

To try to turn along the aspect of the straight line of just, balance with parallelepiped, to introduce) is enclosed with (2 sinusoides the cap of a/the sphere on the parties type of the cylinders of how many l of thing length with 84 X S=homoide there>it is B that introduces 1 contact point in homoide of n unprocessing.    To that shows that this contact point is the point of rebroussement.

Clear as the water of the mix in with soil garden...

"In a parallel-piped rectangle, displaying along its wooden right-hand side the equation "84 Charing X Road = y", a hominid 'A' wearing a fetching pair of spherical shorts offered a tour of her sinuses to my cylinder of longing. She simultaneously presented a point of contact to a trivial hominid 'B'. Which all goes to show that a point of contact can end up being a ramphoid cusp."

Are we getting anywhere near?

So let me get this straight.  A chav in a phone box is picking her nose, which someone finds attractive. One thing leads to another...  No that can't be right.  Huh

Ok, so the sum total of the hypotenuse multiplied by the cylinder of longing divided by variable sinuses, allowing for the presence of parallel-piped rectangles and lapels, will result in the rhomboid artichoke as a point of contact. These findings will, of course, be invalid if connected with a phone box enclosed on four sides.
