And Brian Souter, for much the same reason, Bryn  Wink

(A bit of a North-British stranglehold on the transport system, no?)

I remember setting up my PC at the start of a prom to record the concert from the radio and the missus and I went out for a meal. We were back after about an hour and when the programme ended I saved the file.

Next day I edited and transferred the recording to a CD and a few days later slipped it into the car CD player on my way to work, and listened to the rest on the way back. I was not amused towards the end to hear our house burglar alarm sounding  for about 15 seconds Undecided

Indeed Ron. I suppose that, as a shareholder, (as a result of having worked for them for a couple of years, a while back), I should welcome the growth of First, but I still very much curse Thatcher and co. for the mess they made of public transport in the UK. The present lot are not much better.

every concessionary fare under this scheme is transmitted to a central location, so that the subsidies for each company can be accurately assessed.

I would imagine that a more efficient way of managing this might be to have all the buses run by the same company. (Call me old-fashioned.)

Which would be owned by the same local authority that paid for the concessionary fares. (Ahh, pre-1986 was indeed the golden age.)

Brian Souter
I used to boycott his buses (Stagecoach etc.). These days I never know which are his; I keep finding out that ones I regularly catch/have caught are pies in which he a finger has. Undecided

And do you go North by train, tinners? He has just under a half share in Virgin rail, as well. He's South West Trains, too.

See, Ron, that's what I mean. I keep finding these things out. Angry Angry Angry

Is there any way to get from London to Manchester without hitching a ride from a homophobe?

Well, Stuart, this has been debated in high places and Option 2 was recommended but it appears that Option 1 was adopted to satisfy the objective of simplifying the regulatory regime and, of course, nothing could be more simple than doing nothing. So its pints all round at the Department of Transport. If you want to (fruitlessly) complain, see the bottom of the following page (they should have sobered up by now) ..

... and please don't mention Brian Souter, 1980's fat cat (rhyming slang) and a disciple of that great de-regulator Mrs Blue Tongue. They certainly de-regulated Sunderland Corporation Transport (Thats de-regulated. Geddit?). Stagecoach eh? At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask ...
