I just learn that Wagner wrote piano sonata. Who could of think that. May be it is not original enough and this is why it is not played. I sounds interesting to me, very romantic.
May be the programme composer of the week got a little better today on Tuesday.

I am the only one who is listening to composer of the week Wagner for the third time this week.

I never could develop interest in plots of his operas. The idea that man challenges God is scary to me. I don't like arrogance too.
He obvioulsy was a great man and composer. It is interesting to understand completely different personality than our own.

I did not know that Wagner and Nietzsche were friends. Nietzsche's ideas are life affirming - which is attractive from one point of view.
They fell out because of Parsifal. This opera I know the least of all, though I don't know others very well.

I liked it very much. I am listening again now to the whole programme.
I read about how Wagner used King about his affair with Casima Bulow in a book about Liszt by Walker.

You can find Wagner personality fascinating, Lord Byron. He had magnetic personality, like you. He had many woman in love with him. May be he was less noble characrter than you.
The whole thing with Cosima Liszt-Bullow was very painful for everyone involved. King Ludwig, Nitzshe, Liszt, Bullow - all were disillusioned with Wagner. But Wagner was of such good opinion about himself, he did not care. He was very self assured man. I wonder if he ever doubt himself. Many composers go through self doubt. I don't think Mozart, Beethoven doubted themselves.

It is bombastic sometimes. I am learning to like and even love things I didnot understand before.
I understand why people like it.
May be I even understand what was my mistakes in my attitude to life through his music and his personality.

It is strange that being publicly antisemitic Wagner still had Jewish friends.
I think I like Epicurus better than Nietzsche.

Nietzsche was right that some things DO require hard work but I like the famous greek maxim of moderation Smiley

I know little of Wagner, what I have heard is not so nice.
If you like subtle, Wagner is probably not a good pick.
If you like thud and blunder, Wagner is for you. His music is very much "full on". There are no half measures. Not even for the audience.

Looking forward to next weeks Composer of the Week - it's Liszt and it's on when I can hear it as well!  One good change that has recently happened to R3.

I it the second day of COTW Liszt. I am enjoying it. Yesterday I heard Ave Verum Corpus for the first time. It was beautiful. Also Am grabe Richard Wagners was moving.
Today I had little time, but am listening on Listen again to Dante Symphony. I really enjoying hearing music that many people don't associate with Liszt like his Preludio or lesser played pieces from his late period.
