Morning all. I was planning up to the last minute to get to the concert but I had what turned out to be a minor emergency to deal with at home and in the end wouldn't have been able to get to the Warehouse until it was all over. Sorry about the book, Bryn. I really do want it!

Tell you what, Richard. Nearer the date, let me know the next Cutting Edge gig you intend to attend, and I will try again. Third time lucky, perhaps? Wink

I've just looked at this again, now that I have a bit more money, and I'm very, very tempted to head over to see Jonathan's concert having, in addition, a big soft spot for Jørgen Hald Nielsen's album of piano music by Peter Møller:

This is quite an amazing record. Very strange music and great playing. Jørgen will be impressed people know about it! I listened to it for the first time on a ferry between Hov and the island Samsø which seemed like a good setting for it. The ending of the Chaconne is memorable.

I think you should - it has etudes based on Chopin etudes. Your cup of tea, I believe ...

The whole thing sounds very much like at least one of my cups of tea! What label is it on? I'll go ask my local record store.

I think I ordered it from some danish store along with the Bentzon P&F set.  Can find out which one if your people can't get it in.

I found his version of the Chopin Etude to be something astonishing (at least the opening, the way that, to my ears, the clusters up in the high registers seem to anticipate and make way for modulations of the melodic part (maybe I'm just making it up, but that's what it *sounds* like)).  I don't suppose you would be able to inquire of him where I might be able to be able obtain a copy of the scores from?

Many thanks for this. I'm going to be away for just over a couple of weeks so don't expect to be able to obtain it before I leave, but I'll certainly go for it as soon as I am able.

Moller is dead, unfortunately. I will ask Mr Nielsen to bring some material over with him at the end of the month. I don't imagine the pieces are published, unless Danish music publishing is utterly unlike that found elsewhere in the world.

Yes - his dates are 1947-1999. I enquired at Bath Compact Discs this morning and they can only get three discs of his work, all of which are on Danacord and none of which are of piano music. My appetite remains well whetted. Does anyone know when the piano music CD was released (it's not in the current Gramophone catalogue which is now nevertheless several months old, I think)?

I'll have a look at the case when I get home tonight.

Oh; thank you very much.  This working out, ought I accost him after the concert then, or?  (I shall be in London for that day and most of the next).

Stephen Gutman's up-coming recital (this thursday) is also very tempting-Luke Stoneham's 'Nobody here but us Chickens' (inspired by the keyboard music of Rameau and Couperin)was originally composed for harpsichord but comes up very fresh on the piano- - -especially when played by Stephen, who has just bought out an acclaimed recording of Rameau's keyboard music.
