It is almost heresy but can I enter qualified approval of Snape.  Whilst it is indeed excellent for some music it is anything but for jazz, amplified music and for poetry readings.  The acoustic is quite lively and anything above middle volume just bounces around and creates a mismash of sound that is anything but good.  The spoken voice can be completely indecipherable as I know from Snape Prom poetry readings.  I beleieve that an answer could be found if the people that manage the hall would investigate the problem and invest in the acoustic devices that the BBC installed when they first broadcast Jazz at the Maltings many years ago and found the acoustic absolutley impossible.  Getting this message across to the current management is, it would seem, impossible.  The hall is not just for recitals, chamber music and the occasional symphony orchestra.
