I suppose it's a case of "If you've got it, Flaunt it !"

I would love to sound like Jussi Bjorling (hence the picture of the great man as my avatar). Alas, the distance between the sound that Bjorling and I make is roughly equivalent to the distance between the North and South Poles, alas   Sad

Jussi's my all time favourite singer, ernani, but I wouldn't want to sound like someone who makes me go weak at the knees when I hear his voice - I'd fall over every time I opened my mouth!
For you:

From http://www.cantabile-subito.de/Tenors/Bjoerling__Jussi/hauptteil_bjoerling__jussi.html

Do you know this site? http://www.borlange.se/templates/BlgUnitStartPage____6972.aspx
There are some remarkable audio excerpts there which include the very young Jussi singing with his brothers. Plus some brief video footage too.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Well, I like Jussi Björling as much as anyone, but also poor Fritz Wunderlich.

Nevertheless, I wish I could sound like George London singing Mussorgsky.

If I were a woman, pigs would fly and then I'd be too panicked to sing much.

You must mean Marni Nixon. She could also sing Webern most beautifully (as on Robert Craft's recordings).

Yes, Marni Nixon is the one. There was a (radio) programme about her a while back and apparently when she dubbed for Deborah Kerr in 'The King and I', they got on famously. I have just rung HMV about the recordings you mention, but was told that Marni Nixon's recordings have been discontinued. Pity.

I can sing, up to a point, and am a chorus member and soloist with my local Male Voice Choir.

For the sort of repertoire that I use for solos, I'd like to be able to sing like Owen Brannigan, who was a guest artiste with our choir once or twice in the early 50s.

If I had a sex change (and returned to more youthful times) I would like to sing like Anne-Sofie von Otter or Ekaterina Semenchuk.
