*just* finished 'A Confederacy of Dunces' by John Kennedy Toole.
if you haven't read it, buy it or steal it, and read it now.
please.
Yes!

Coincidentally I was at the doctor this morning on account of a problem with my "valve", nothing serious, but it did put me in mind of the lovable Ignatius.

My new book "Autobiography of a Super Tramp" arrived this morning!  Cheesy  I haven't had time to start it today and we're playing bridge tonight so tomorrow night's the night!!!!  It looks super.  The preface is by George Bernard Shaw.

The Interpretation of Murder, by Jed Rubenfield.

Quite twisty and a good read - makes you think about a lot of things (the way the book is written, human nature, social influences, etc).  Most annoying thing about the book was that it was so obvious when the author was trying to lead you to a false conclusion about the murderer's identity in the early stages.  And even towards the end, I guessed correctly a bit early.

Just begun Gravity's Rainbow but it was only a small chunk last night.

Oh I started that over a year ago, but I found it tough enough that the image of the monster digesting those soldiers on the street and them enjoying it rather put me off.  Good books like that can wait, anyway.

I have been reading a comic series called Fables

I thought I was finished reading comics, but I decided to give this series a whirl, and I found myself, all of a sudden, up to date after a day-and-a-bit of doing little else.  Some plot about folkloric characters seeking refuge in the real world from an evil empire.  I particularly like the casting of an archetypical witch-character, named Frau Totenkinder as a protagonist.  Lovely artwork as well.

I've found that by far the two strongest series I've read over the past six months were Daredevil Vol. 2 (which is no longer good :/ ) and Ex Machina; both of which have religious/political themes which I am never on fully comfortable terms with (however well they might have been handled), but which I have found both gripping and very beautiful at various points, and always readable (until the writer changed in Daredevil grrrr).

I've begun re-reading The Brothers Karamazov.  I can't remember much of it, apart from Father Zossima's advice to kiss the earth (which I can remember following when younger) and who did the murder.

I can never remember Whodunnit with Agatha Christie.  Shame really, because I could do with an element of suspense with such a very long book.  Nevertheless, I am pleased to be entering the murky world of Dostoevsky again.

I'm planning to attack The Devils after I finish the Pynchon but I might need a palate cleanser between them!
