Ok, who's up for a December Meet Up? A few people have asked if there's going to be one. If we do it in the second week we might avoid the Santa hat crush and even get a table Wink How do the dates 9th or 10th sound?  If there are any new Members, or those who haven't been able to make previous Meet Ups, who may be braving a Christmas shopping trek or just fancy making contact  come along, have a drink (or two) and recover from the shop fest. All welcome!

Over to you ...

Oops, forgot to say it will be at The George, London Bridge. Pretty good for transport links of all kinds. Except maybe planes. Or hovercraft ...  http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/43/434/George/London_Bridge

I can't do the 10th (and nor can anyone who wants to hear the Ensemble InterContemporain playing Sur incises at the RFH, which I dare to venture may be more than one or two members of this august forum), but the 9th sounds good to me.

The words "degenerating into self-parody" spring to mind whenever I see that title.

Can't do 9th - choir concert with lots of horrible, over-excited primary-school children the musicians of tomorrow.

10th depends on (i) if I can get a late pass for the evening and (ii) Ruth is around to make sure I behave myself.

I'd like to be there and I might be around for either day - on the other hand, there is a risk I might have to be in the Capital of Europe on at least one of those days.  So no more than a tentative yes from here.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

With me too. All the more reason for going to hear it uttered from the horse's mouth, though, so to speak.

And TF thinks one of the downbeats is interesting. I haven't heard the piece since hearing his comment to that effect but am much looking forward to experiencing it myself.

Looks as though it's shaping up to be the 9th. 4 'can do', a 'maybe' from PW but a regret from LDHS  Cry I think Richard is ok for 9th as well.

The 9th is better for me too.  The 10th I have a gig at Temple Church (should be nice - the lovely Elin Manahan Thomas will sing songs from the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens among a couple instrumental pieces - 6:45pm, about an hour-ish, but I'll probably need to either drink/schmooze or head home afterwards).

(How's that for sneaking in a plug?)

(Here's another one - trio sonatas at Lauderdale House (Highgate Village) at 7:30pm on 12 December!)

(And here are two more: Bach cantatas and Corelli Christmas Concerto at Temple Church 6:45pm on 24 November, and Purcell's Welcome to All the Pleasures at Temple Church 6:45pm on 3 December!)

What time do people begin to congregate?  I'm in town on the 9th but I have to be in Twickenham by 1930.  If it's an early start, though, I'd love to pop in and say hello.  As long as I get to Waterloo by about 1815 I should get to Twickenham in time to see Paul & Huw Watkins doing their stuff.  The 10th is out for me - I'm off first thing in the morning to hear Katya Matilla singiing Karita Kabanova.
