Currently residing outside the UK, I wonder if anyone here will be attending the funeral. May you rest in peace, Sir.

That's a wonderful obit! Thanks, M.

I really didn't know that much about DOS. Cheers, martle.

... had he written anything at all published on Clementi?  If so, I'd love to take a look at it!

There's an old article entitled 'Au creux nant musicien: Recent Work by Aldo Clementi', in CONTACT No. 23 (Winter 1981), pp. 5-9.

I found that Contact article that Ian mentions absolutely captivating when it came out, and many of the ideas in it found their way into what I was writing at the time, though it was another three or four years before I actually heard any of the music, which I must say I found somewhat disappointing, having constructed for myself an aural image of it which it somehow failed to live up to.

As I mention above, he delivered a brilliant talk on Clementi barely three weeks before his death. I'm hopeful that it will be in a state to be published (it sounded as though it was). Various people working on that right now...

Sorry if this seems morbid; but I know there are DOS fans out there, so here's another obit, in today's Guardian:

Wonderful - keep us posted!  Speaking of Clementi, there are wonderful things on this new disc, which is now spinning chez me, and which features prominent contributions from an (erstwhile?) R3OK maven...

Just reminded myself of something from a few weeks back - does anyone have a copy of this they could possibly scan/photocopy (I didn't say that, of course!) for a poor non-academically-affiliated music writer with no JSTOR access? Cry

I have it - can get that to you. CONTACT isn't on JSTOR, anyhow.

You're a star, Ian! Smiley

Ah, well, there you go. Since I don't have JSTOR access I just tend to assume that everything I want is there. A curious psychological phenomenon which one might call 'wish nearly-fulfilment', I suppose - the idea that you can't have everything you want, but it's only just out of reach.
