FOFL.
Col Lego,
dustsceawung.
People seem to be speaking a mix of Anglo-Saxon and Danish. I'm totally lost and disoriented.

I'll put in a word for Wilhelm Killmayer (a disc of piano works, and a disc of orchestral pieces including ... fin al punto), without meaning to imply that I don't also highly rate several of the recommendations made by others above.

The recent Berio Canticum novissimi testamenti and A-Ronne with the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart (WER6678-2) is worth a mention, as are various Hindemith and Henze things which I don't know so well (though I did pick up WER6637-2 Henze Nachtstücke und Arien etc. when recommended IIRC by Veronika on the old BBC boards).

Speaking of Veronika, would be interested to know whether she thinks there's any essential listening in among the 10 or so volumes of the 'Computer Music Currents' series.

Veronika says that a few of those CDs have one or two interesting pieces on them (of which some, like those by Bayle and Koenig, are available on other CDs anyway) but most of it is rather worthy "academic" stuff, a bit lifeless for her taste.

Tell her thanks, would you? I suspected as much, but it's good to have expert confirmation. Saves me a few pennies anyway.

I always mean to get something/anything by Killmayer - all I've seen is a disc on Col Legno (?)

To be more on the positive side (though correct if I'm wrong) there is a wonderful piece by Clarence Barlow on one of these computer discs.

Is there?

That reminds me ... I promised to copy a Barlow piece for you ages ago and then I never saw you to hand it over. Will you be at Cutting Edge tomorrow? Or later in the series?

Nevertheless, vol4 has the very, very underrated Jean-Baptiste Barriere, Chreode I.
Not sure if this piece is elsewhere(?) , it showed what IRCAM's 4X machine http://mediatheque.ircam.fr/articles/textes/Boulez88c/
was capable of at the time. Astounding voice manipulation that took days and days to synthesize. http://musicweb.koncon.nl/ircam/en/artificial/chreode.html
Heroic.

The 11 Wergo volumes do contain many gems. The very knowledgeable Stanley Haynes (U.K), who helped IRCAM in so many ways. Dennis Smalley, whose theory of 'Spectromorphology' is still relevant today. Trevor Wishart, in Vox5, invented special spectral routines while commissioned by IRCAM. And Jonathan Harvey whose 'Mutuous Plango'  showed that you didn't  necessarily need _all_ the power of IRCAM to create Wink

Would have liked to see John Chowning (the man behind FM synthesis (DX7) represented in this collection, but he has a complete Wergo disc to himself. 'Stria' is simply beautiful. http://www.amazon.com/Chowning-Turenas-Stria-Phone-Sabelit/dp/B00008G1SW

Richard Barrett is _completely_ correct of course, but for any potential student of academic  'electronic music' (tm)  it is essential,
methinks.
Worthy is the new black.

Thanks mr ropes. Wink

Next time I do feel the will to worthiness coming on I shall return to your wise words as guide and leaven through the black.
