Thanks for the link pw.  On a serious note, it is quite exciting really isn't it?  By next week we could know a lot more about the universe (well, someone might.  We might find out by 2012...)  Grin

If we all vanish into a black hole we'll be able to amuse ourselves looking for the millennium bug; which hasn't been heard of for a while and must have gone somewhere.

Oh dear, the universe is going to end tomorrow and I didn't even know about it until I read this thread Embarrassed Don't need to bother too much about getting my new wireless set up working perfectly then.

Here's a little of what Stephen Hawking has said, including:

If the LHC were to produce little black holes, I don't think there's any doubt I would get a Nobel prize, if they showed the properties I predict. However, I think the probability that the LHC has enough energy to create black holes, is less than 1%, so I'm not holding my breath.

The thing is, the LHC guys may have done all the sums and satisfied themselves that what they've put together is safe, but how can we be sure that on one of the billions of other planets in the universe there isn't, or hasn't been, or won't be a group of alien physicists knocking up their own super-collider without the same attention to Health and Safety? The universe could be at risk of implosion right now because of these cowboys.

I think we should be told.

Quote from: Michael Fish, who has apparently never produced a big bang (yet)
Earlier on today, apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she heard there was a hurricane on the way; well, if you're watching, don't worry, there isn't, but having said that, actually, the weather will become very windy, but most of the strong winds, incidentally, will be down over Spain and across into France.
Link for anybody who wasn't in England on the night of October 15th, 1987.

With Ollie being just that little bit closer to Geneva than the UK residents of this forum, he will of course disappear first ( Embarrassed).  I'm sure Martle will be very grateful for the extra nanoseconds this gives him to post frantically and take the top tusking spot.

It would be trickier if we were all still at TOP, though...

You must wait...
