I was under the impression that Alina Cojocaru had been the next big thing for some time - a wonderful dancer. I think many people think of her as the star.
Of the British dancers, I've always liked Bethany Keating, but she doesn't seem to get as many opportunities as I've felt she deserved, and is still a soloist, as is Natasha Oughtred, another good one.
Alina is the best ballerina in the world, at this moment in time.

Darce was on BBC Breakfast telly this morning (not live) - you see, there are rewards for being idle and watching television in the morning. I still laugh when I see the clips of her with Dawn French.

She cried a lot, didn't she? Not many people can look both sniffly and beautiful. It was lovely to see Monica Mason and Donald Macleary, both of whom I remember well in their dancing days, looking elegant and stylish as ever. Jonathan Cope spoke very well, I thought.
I hate that ballet, the most naive response to Mahler imaginable. The singing I thought quite good - Catherine Wyn Rogers and David Rendall.
Unworthy thoughts on this (I seem to be having a lot of these lately). When the Abschied went into "Ewig, ewig" I was reminded that when I sang Mahler with my choir this (in another context) was always referred to as "Earwig, earwig".

Silly, I know, but I shall always think of her as Dancey Bussell

Unworthy thoughts on this (I seem to be having a lot of these lately). It's a great relief to the rest of us that you do, Mary. It gives us licence to do the same. I think with 'Earwig' we are now quits over my Death in Venice one
