Well, maybe not! But it does get rather fewer productions than Janáček's other great operas.

Whilst browsing through DG's last catalogue, I was amazed at the amount of crossover material. This DVD and the imminent release of Bělohlávek's Brouček have restored at least a little of my faith in the company. Wink

opilec, I don't know if you know (or could even confirm?) the anecdote about Mackerras recording one of the Janáček operas and the producer arriving late at the session because he'd been recording some Puccini with Pavarotti (or something of the sort).

"Where have you been"
"Making the money to pay for this, Sir Charles. Shall we begin?"

Or words to that effect.
