I wonder whether the BEEB peruse these boards?     On the David Jacobs Collection
he's just played tunes from 'Carousel' and 'Show Boat' in quick succession, including
a reference to the innovatory approach in the latter.

Still time to register your vote DJ.

Just to bump this one up.  The poll has now closed and the outcome is magnificently inconclusive, although the two musicals that I do know among the three equal winners are well worthwhile.

Anyone like to recommend a recording of Carousel, as I must get to know it now, not least as June is bustin' out all over?

A most satisfying outcome, DB.   Regarding, "Carousel", I'd opt for the N.T. cast recording (1993) but I'd also require an alternative recording which included anti-hero Billy Bigelow's 'The Highest Judge of All', particularly in John Raitt's version performed at Music Theatre of Lincoln Centre in 1965. This number is usually cut as it appears rather late in the work.  I must also eke out my Sinatra recording of Billy's 'Soliliquy' which is electrifying.     Incidentally, Sinatra started filming the role of Billy, in 1955, but walked off the set when told that he would be required to film each sequence twice;  the standard ratio (academy) version as well as the developing Cinemascope ratio.  He was replaced by Gordon McRae.

Anyhow, DB, DO pm me, please!
