Woe betide Lang Lang if he steps out of line.
Rather like American movie stars if they displease the multinational conglomerates that bankroll the film industry, you mean?

It's tough being an artiste in a superpower, regardless of political posture.

I completely agree with rauschwerk.
Also I don't remember who said that he was colourless. I agree too.
I also agree with marbleflugel.

Ron Dough, I don't have a recording of Lang Lang playing Tippett's piano concerto. Just the fact that he is playing it (I am told he mastered the piece in a very short time) is a postitive thing.

Ron,

I think I may be able to help you.  I will have to check when I get home, but I am pretty sure I have a recording of the broadcast of the Tippett Piano Concerto with the LSO and Lang Lang.

I remember he went up considerably in my estimation when he agreed to learn this for what at the time looked like it would be a single performance.  That he also did so in order to work with the LSO and Colin Davis (it was his LSO debut) and that he would like to play it elsewhere is also gratifying.

</Does anyone have a recording of that broadcast of that Lang Lang/LSO/Davis Tippett piano concerto from the first time they did it (2005, IIRC)? >

i wonder if the second time was also recorded (2007)? as you might imagine, this was even better, especially in the slow movement.

I'd like to hope so, since the Child of Our Time (which was the other half of the concert, I believe) certainly was, and has already been released. Since Sir Colin D has never recorded the 4th Symphony, perhaps there's a chance that they're waiting for another go at that as a coupling.

yes, let's hope so! it may've required a bit of post-patching but LL`s transluscent, charismatic playing really came into it's own for this concerto.

Pim posted this on Watch + Listen. For those who haven't heard it, it's infinitely better than Lang Lang's version.

This is the only one that is somewhat interesting.

This is just awful. The most interesting thing is that he is seriously thinks this is the way to play.
