I certainly agree that there was far too much Bryn Terfel and that much of his singing was unimpressive. My Proms Prospectus led me to expect Britten's Foggy, Foggy Dew, but it was replaced by more VW. Does anyone know the reason? Too smutty for a family audience? Actually I expect Bryn would have gone over-the-top with the suggestiveness; we would have had silly faces to help us catch on to the story. Come back, Pears! To be fair: I don't know what he's singing like now but I do remember seeing him perform that very song in Sydney, it must have been in the very early noughties. It was very gentle indeed - subtle and touching, and he didn't ham it up at all. Ah well. Perhaps it's just that one doesn't need to overact when the voice is doing what it should (which on that evening it certainly was!)...

He has made a recording - I think it's a recording - that is just as Descombes describes, even though the face isn't visible. I heard it on Radio 3 not long ago. Quite awful. I didn't realise he'd ever sung it properly.

Who knows, maybe if I heard that concert now I'd be appalled! But there's a certain tenor who did lovely things back then who is now rather too mannered for my tastes - I'm sure you know who I mean. Maybe it's that sort of thing...

...or is it a double bluff? Agents Elleson and (I take it) Lady DHS, report to moderators immediately for debriefing.

But have you seen either of them since, David? With Roger it all starts innocently enough with an apparently casual meeting in a public place but once in his evil clutches ...
Well I certainly saw them both later the same day - though I must admit was also reminded of that other picture. Mind you I certainly couldn't see Kenyon ever doing anything fo the sort. RW does at least seem to make some effort to talk to the punters (so far as the Proms are concerned at least).

Same location, too, as the plotting and assassination in 'The Ipcress File' (1965).

I had completely forgotten about that photo (the one of us, I mean)! I clearly recall chatting to RW in the Last Night queue around the time it was taken - as David said, he has been quite active in his interaction with the regular Promenaders, and he apparently took part in the ceilidh in the Arena on Folk Day - but actually posing for the photo is still oddly missing from my recollection Beedle-de-deedle-de deeeeee... two ladies...

I'd forgotten all about it until I uploaded the photos to facebook and looked at them properly. I think perhaps the contents of your hands might have something to do with this lapse...

At least both my hands are visible in shot! As, indeed, are Mr Wright's. Somebody has left the location of her right hand to the imagination - and now I'm wondering why Roger has that smile on his face...
