reiner,

I concur with everything you have said. I'm sure everyone here wants this forum to maintain some alignment with Radio 3 and at the same time offer listeners much more than CMoR3 ever did.

The layout of the forum front page needs to remain user friendly and I would think that would have to include avoiding too many topics. Putting the list of topics alphabetically could help but then again The Early Music Show comes under T and not E  Cheesy - I think some of the other topics just feel better with 'The'  Wink

Not seen Michael around here much recently, I'm sure he'll go along with any popular request, but there may be some admin issues to consider.

As I say we can start threads now on authentic instruments, restoration, replications, gut strings, whatever, and they can be re-assembled into a new HIP section, though surely not called HIP  Wink

I suspect there may be a medical term for this in psychopathology but I hanker after consistency so that the title is just 'Early Music' (which would obviously include discussion of The Early Music Show) to match the 'New Music' one (which obviously includes discussion of....., er, whatever's left of New Music on R3 these days).

But then I want to rationalise 'Washing Machine' and 'Dishwasher'  by changing at least one of them to 'Clotheswasher' or 'Washing Up Machine' ....so it's possible I am a little odd.

George, being no stranger to the corridors of power, you could surely have a word in someone's ear and have those names rationalised, couldn't you?

The medical term you're thinking of was originally coined by Freud, I believe. I should know, I'm getting to be an old retainer myself.

Quite so. I always say the one when I mean the other and that causes my poor wife both amusement and confusion. I'm all for rationalisation.

You could go French and say lave-linge and lave-vaisselle?

Not to be confused with ze ol' lave-endles.

The Germans aren't much help. They have different words for 'wash' as in clothes and 'wash' as in laundry. So they say Spülmaschine and Waschmaschine.

Oliver, have you really nothing better to do?

Well, yes, but since I just sent Richard some advice on colour fingerings for saxophone I thought that counted as work so I could slack off for a bit.

Is Michael a known specialist in HIP reconstruction? Good to know.

I get confused with those too. For years I thought it referred to the ears until someone gently put me right <deepredblush>

It must surely dependson what you're doing at the time, GG. Handles in various places can be useful in different circumstances. So I'm told.  Roll Eyes

The Emperor suspected they were right. But he dared not stop and so on he walked, more proudly than ever. And his courtiers behind him held high the train... that wasn't there at all.

Handles in various places can be useful

"Handle In The Strand", for example.  Very useful in icy weather when crossing the road to Charing Cross Station after performances at the Coliseum.
