How many times can a pair of trousers be made off with?
Perhaps Mr Sudden doth protest too much. And perhaps someone else should be protesting at ending a sentence with "with" instead of resorting to the more Churchillan "Off with how many times can a pair of trousers be made"?" (oops, sorry - this isn't The Threadantry Ped, is it?!...) Best, Alistair

It is deleted, I'm afraid, though Cantus Cölln's more recent Buxtehude disc is happily avayliable.

BWV 4 a little on the jaunty side.
Sorry to backtrack but perhaps that's not such a bad thing? I mean, given that the texts are really relatively upbeat considering the subject matter and that every verse ends with Alleluia or however he spelt it (can't be bothered to check)...

Some unjustly neglected, beautiful music here, with tons of rhythmic verve and contrapuntal complexity, played by the indefatigable Fretwork... and some quite effective contributions, musical commentaries I suppose, from Fabrice Fitch, who has suffered the indignity of having every trace of his existence and contribution to this record erased from the front cover.

I'm not quite sure what happened there. I certainly seem to remember seeing an earlier proof which wasn't like that.

Rolf Hind's Messiaen - Regard no. 16 at the moment. One of the first Messiaen discs I bought. Still holds up well both as performances and a collection, I reckon. Although I did just order the Loriod set of Gawks on Adès at an inflated but not ballooning price from across the waters. Anyone out there know it? Will I regret it? This is on the way too: Includes Gawks XV and X from what may be the old Pathé 78s. I think I may be in a Messiaen phase again. The 'complete' (well, what were thought to be the lot in 1994 when the recordings were made) organ works of Messiaen, played by Willem Tanke, arrived in the post today. Not tried any of them yet, but there are some enthusiastic reviews to be found.

La Nativité played by Simon Preston right now. Prelude to the old Dorati recording of La Transfiguration. Which I acquired gratis (or should I say on an 'it'll all come out in the wash' basis) because it was surplus to a fellow boarder's requirements.
My gratitude is unstinted.

La Nativité played by Willem Tanke. He was not afraid to play nice and slow. The organ has great presence (i.e. there's a lot of noise from the mechanics). ;-)
I'm enjoying these performances (only 3 edits in the entire set of recordings) rather more than I expected. Some interesting tuning 'weaknesses' which add a touch of Paragraph 1 to the proceedings. A steal at £16.95 for the 8 disc set.
Mmm, nice!

Poulenc - Concert champêtre. Aimée van de Wiele (on a V8 harpsichord) and Pierre Dervaux conducting the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in glorious mono.
Why do I like this piece so much? Any ideas?

None at all - that piece really irritates me intensely!
