I didn't/don't think it's ever been commercially released... It definitely has bits of vinyl 'crackle', though, in which case I think it must be transferred from an old commercial release. PM me if you want a copy - I'd be happy to oblige.

in its time (1961) Well, if I'd known that I might have pricked up my ears a bit more.

PM me if you want a copy - I'd be happy to oblige. I'm pretty positive there hasn't been a release of that, certainly not in vinyl days (nor on CD unless there's some very obscure mixed CD out there somewhere). Could the 'crackle' have come from elsewhere?

It's been a Bridge night for me (partly thanks to Syd!) - Oration, Allegro moderato for strings, Prayer. Hickox/ Chandos vol 4. All new to me; some startling moments in Oration (add a bit of percussion and some bars would sound like Tout un monde lointain!!!), Prayer is OK, a bit chorally-overblown (and a rather self-flagellatory text by Thomas a Kempis); Allegro moderato by far the tightest piece, will give it another spin...

Is Oration the cello concerto? If so, I think I prefer Phantasm, the piano concertante work from around the same time (although I've only heard them once each, and in the cello one Steven Isserlis was well-nigh drowned out by the Albert Hall acoustic).

Yes, Oration is the cello concerto. There's a performance on R3 next Friday ( 11th ) when Perfomance on 3 is a concert from the Manchester Cello Festival. Britten and Walton's concertos also.

Just heard Glinka transcribed Liszt - Chernoor's March from Russlan, Liszt Grossekonzertstucke on themes by Mendelssohn and lastly, Liszt's Grands Galop Chromatique in the 4 hand version.

I submit myself to a regular diet of Henry Threadgill. Anyone else think this is extremely under-rated?
