In E-Space, currently revolving is Evan Johnson's "Supplement" for bass clarinet...and, while I know not to what it is a supplement, it's very fine indeed (listening without the score Evan, but it seems a very solid performance...I assume it is?). Excellent Monday evening dinner music!
Well I'm glad I have furnished you with fine Tafelmusik the piece is a supplement to itself. obviously. don't know why that's not obvious from listening the performance is solid indeed, though it has been bettered since (no other performances on record, yet); it's quickly becoming one of my most oft-performed pieces, thanks entirely to its dedicatee, a hotshot young'un in Amsterdam named Gareth Davis. the piece is quite deliberately and extremely impossible to play, which Gareth takes quite in stride...

It better had be. I've just ordered it.
It is. A much gentler record than Ever Present, which seems brash in comparison. This is quite subtle, and the new piece on here ( Charles Curtis) is really lovely. And at a mere $8.99 (second hand but sealed) I couldn't really say no.

Janos Starker Bach Cello Suites 1 & 4. Mono LP, Saga XID 5167, purchased in Falmouth junkshop today for 20p Pretty rough surfaces, but what do you expect from a Saga LP? Some very brisk tempos (1/i e.g.) but probably worth the dosh

Oh good grief. I haven't listened to ANYTHING all day (except for the builder's music early this morning). What shall I listen to while washing up?

Haven't heard James' music for a long time, am still very impressed with Windows (and Canopies) and Ueberschreiten. Will be going to Strasbourg (Musica Festival) on 28th September to see/hear Andromeda since I missed the Proms performance last year (& my small speakers on this computer don't do much music any service), I think it'll be performed by the Liege orchestra conducted by Pascal Rophe, who I incidently saw last year playing a percussion concerto ("Phosphor") by J. Schoellhorn. Good orchestra & excellent conductor (have you heard this very fine piece, Chafer ??).
...now spinning? at present my head : have 3.5 days to write sextet up in neat and distribute parts next week. Performance of this piece will be on 27th Sept. at ZKM in Karlsruhe.

Complete works for cello and piano by Leo Ornstein. What a wonderful composer ! While I'm at it, I'll recommend his Piano Quintet (absolute corker) and the 4th piano sonata.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley
