Also of note, a fair bit of Mackerras and Mozart. Figaro from Covent Garden is on Saturday evening, so I'll get to sample it before attending the following week.
Tam, I went on Wednesday: I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I imagine there'll be a fair bit of stage noise in the broadcast, but musically it's a joy from start to finish. I quite like what McVicar's trying to do in his production, if not always with the way he realises it. And am happy to say that Mackerras (looking rather frail now -- except when conducting!) was recovered from a nasty cold that kept him from conducting last Friday's performance. I'll save more comments until after you've seen it.

What are folk here making of Egarr's Brandenburgs on Po3 at the moment, Friday 4th July)? Missed much of No. 1 due to not noticing the early start tonight.

Bryn, I didn't realise what time it was and missed the first two. Listening to No 3 I thought the harpsichord was a bit heavy, bit too much percussion

Very much enjoyed No 4, probably always been my favourite of the six. I always seem to be comparing perfomances with the first set I ever bought on a CFP LP (K Sillito et al) and tonight's No 4 compared very well with that, with clear recorder playing and nice bits of extra energy from the violins.

(I was only listening in here with the 50watt speakers)

John, 2 and 4 are my long-standing favourites. Though I managed to capture all but No. 1 tonight, I got distracted form listening for quite a while, and what I heard in spits and spats sounded a bit 'untidy'. I will listen once I have edited what I have. I hope to at least hear No. 1 via the beta iPlayer in a day or two.

Thanks Opilec.
I seem to recall listening to the broadcast when Pappano first conducted it and there was rather a lot of stage (which, from what I'm told, one is forgiving of in the context of the production).
I probably won't actually listen to the broadcast (I have to go out) but technology will help me out on that score. I can't wait for next Saturday and the real thing, I hope Mackerras stays well, otherwise it will be a slightly bitter-sweet birthday present.
I look forward to comparing notes after next weekend.
As far as Egarr goes, I steered clear of these after his extremely lacklustre reading of the Matthew Passion at Glyndebourne (of course, he wasn't assisted by a dire production).

A sometime member of the Academy of Ancient Music who also played in that Glyndebourne Matthew Passion asks that you please not judge Richard Egarr's musicianship based on that unhappy production. He's done some exciting stuff with AAM that's well worth hearing. Of course, I have a vested interest in promoting the work of my primary employer and its music director, so add salt to the above as required. But there were many reasons why that Matthew Passion didn't show anyone involved in anything like their best light.

I have no trouble believing that. I think it would have been difficult for even the greatest of conductors to bring the music alive with that production.
However, two of the people I was with had seem him do something else (at Aldeburgh if memory serves) and hadn't been overly impressed.
None the less, now that iPlayer is running at decent data rates, I may give listen again a go.

When did it change? I've only noticed because of your post Tam. I'm recording Saturday's World Routes (which for some reason isn't on the beta iPlayer) via the old LA route but I still seem to be getting 250kbps+ according to Bandwidth Monitor - is this real? I'm recording it more than once at different bitrates so I can then make comparisons on some decent listening equipment, rather than the PC speakers. Edit: oops, just thought, I'm using accelerated mode in Total Recorder so that won't be the real bit rate, will it? I'm confused. 2nd edit: I'm now playing the prog without recording it and still getting 250kbps+

I don't know the details, but it appears to be some sort of buffering system.

Thanks for that Tam - your link leads to another page which states: For on-demand content, we're launching iPlayer with four MP3 profiles based on the content of the programme: and we're using four different bitrates for these profiles.
* Pop music (eg Radio 1 or Asian Network) is 128k stereo.
* Classical music (Radio 3) is 192k stereo.
* Stereo speech (Radio 4) is 128k stereo.
* Mono speech (Radio 5live) is 80k mono. This all looks very promising.
