At least Jonathan (assuming that's your name) is quite often used in its full form, whereas I've never known a Christopher or Nicholas who was known by the unabbreviated name.

That's an interesting point, Mary. And true! I'm trying to imagine what would happen if I called Jonathan Harvey 'Jonno'. Or even John... And I've known him for 20-odd years! I suppose 'Jonathan' really is a different name to 'John', though.

Really? I can think of at least one Christopher (Wintle, probably known to a few members of this forum), though it's true that he has to warn people off calling him 'Chris': it comes so naturally to people.

Most of the Nicholases I know are happy with Nick, but I've never heard anyone call my (13- or 14-year-old) cousin anything other than Nicholas and he doesn't seem to have to insist.

My brother is and has always been known by the full version of his name, Richard. Mind you, I am not keen of many of the abbreviations I have to say!!

I'm glad to hear that. They are both such good names, but I really never have known anyone be called by the full versions. Even in my daughter-in-law's family, where full names are the rule for everyone else, her brother Christopher seems to be called Chris.

She did it again!  Blasted me awake with some horrible Rossini.  I think Sara Mohr-Pietsch has got it in for me.  Angry

What started out as irritation is turning into a fully fledged grump. I ordered a new computer monitor last week and was given a delivery time of 48 hours from receipt of order, they even gave me dates. Now it's changed to anytime between 30/09 to 03/10. It wouldn't be so bad but my wretched screen keeps cutting out on me more and more now. I just know it's waiting to give up the ghost. I checked on their contact details and they say they will respond within 48 hours to any queries. I bet it's the 47th hour as well!  Angry Angry Angry

Why is it that the Blogs and Forums filter on my workplace IT system ignores this site but blocks the (non-blog-or-forum-based) website which would enable me to correspond easily with my sister who is serving in Basra?  Angry

Ruth, is it a Forces Service site? Maybe there's a security issue involved? Sorry, I'm just having a stab in the dark Sad It must be very frustrating for you.

It's this one, Mort:

http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/ebluey_home.htm

I can get onto the site but it blocks me when I want to log in.  I don't think it's a security issue per se - if it were, I'd expect my company to block it under a different pretext than being "Blogs and Forums".

The thing is, I can do it this evening when I get home.  It's just, well, I'm not very good at keeping in touch with my sister anyway (even when she's at home) and I was just in the mood to write to her this afternoon...

Write it now, email it to yourself and send it when you get home, Ruth. Smiley

Good suggestion.
I'm feeling fractious for no reason that I can discern.
It feels like there's just a lot of noise around me and I'm a little chilly.
I may feel better after dinner I suspect.

hh, you've just had a very busy couple of weeks, with the added pressure of two premieres, one of which you were even performing in, not to mention a social round that was decidedly demanding.

Maybe your body's just asking you to take it easy and have some you time.

You're probably right Ron.
I've also come up with some spots on my forehead which are due to stress. I know I should be pleased that even though I'm 30 I have the skin of a 16-yr-old but it's rather frustrating!
