Don't spit into the draw-well, the time may come and you may want to drink from it.
That was difficult to translate. At first I tried whale, then wail, wale. I tried several other ways. Finally I gave up and found it in the Russian English dictionary.

Variations on the familiar "Golden Rule" are found in most world religions:
* Christian version: "Treat others as you would like them to treat you" (Luke 6:31, New English Bible).
* Hindu version: "Let not any man do unto another any act that he wisheth not done to himself by others, knowing it to be painful to himself" (Mahabharata, Shanti Parva, cclx.21).
* Confucian version: "Do not do to others what you would not want them to do to you" (Analects, Book xii, #2).
* Buddhist version: "Hurt not others with that which pains yourself" (Udanavarga, v. 18).
* Jewish version: "What is hateful to yourself do not do to your fellow man. That is the whole of the Torah" (Babylonian Talmud, Shabbath 31a).
* Muslim version: "No man is a true believer unless he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself" (Hadith, Muslim, imam 71-72).
Collected by C. Harris, M. Pritchard, and M. Rabins, in Engineering Ethics: Concepts and Cases, second edition (Wadsworth, 2000), p. 86.
However, I prefer the Wild west version: Do unto others before they do unto you.

1. To live life is not the same as to cross a field.
I am sure this proverb could be translated better. I am not happy with my translation, but I know who can help me. In the original language the word life is in the Past Tense.
May be this is closer: To get through life is not the same as to cross the field
2. Red robin in hand is better than a swan in the sky.

Bomb them before they bomb us?

Yes, it could be transalated better, no doubt about that. Charles Kingsely?

Dear Mort, do you remember those Novenas before we drunk of the depths? Nine of it weren't it before we sucked lemons? Reminds me of that old old Welsh proverb we used to share "Gooseberries are hairy and make a good fool, but the Welsh are hairy and are no-ones fool" Actually, that is awfully good!!
