Can't help but feel that some of the appeal of this Pre-Raph stuff is the equivalent of lifestyles of the rich and famous. Nauseatingly decadent. But to each his therapy, I guess.

Nauseatingly decadent. Not really so, Dr Dish. The member of the circle whose work has arguably had more lasting effect than any of the others (some of his original wallpaper designs are still available) was the designer, painter and writer William Morris, who was one of the first British socialists and founded the Socialist League, forerunner of the Labour Party. Pre-Raphaelite painting was itself an explicit rejection of what the artists saw as the decedent and mannered art of their time. However quaint their pictures might look now they were considered as quite subversive in their time.

Sorry Alistair, another liftestyles of the rich and famous contribution. This painting has always intrigued me, mainly for the facial expressions and body language of those gathered around the table. There`s a sense of the diners desperately trying to eavesdrop on the Lorenzo Isabella conversation without actually appearing to do so. Personally, I`d have told Lorenzo to go hang himself

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

Sorry Alistair, another liftestyles of the rich and famous contribution.
Why are you apologising to me? There's absolutely no need (and I'm not even certain what it is that you're apologising for)! Best, Alistair

(a) Showing off the effects of all that leg press work at the Pineapple Studios
(b) Tying to lure the other dog over by tickling it so that he can crush that one under his chair too.
(c) Trying to hide a particularly intransigent erection.
(d) A reflex action after violently cracking his nuts.
(e) He is the Basil (of the famous Pot) and is trying not to mention the war.

George,
I go for the 3rd option....it would be very embarrasing with those leggings being so tight and all.
Nice leg it is too.

I've never tried this before (should that admission be in one of those ignorance threads?), so I hope I'm doing this right ("ye gods, what a thicko!", you must all be thinking); here goes: http://collections.frick.org/CUS.18.zoomobject._1004$14294*915993 Best, Alistair
