As far as I can tell there seems to be no CD of this available. Does anyone know if there is one, or (if not) whether there was ever a Cassette or LP of it, and where a copy might be sourced?

I'm sure there was an EMI LP of it

Yes - and it seems it was released briefly on CD:

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir. John Westbrook (orator). Sir Charles Groves (cond). EMI British Composers Series CDM 7 63906-2 [59:33] mid-price [DELETED]

Harlow Chorus and London Philharmonic Orchestra. Brian Blessed (orator). Michael Kibblewhite (cond). CALA CACD1010.

Cala is distributed by DI Music, try their website or give them a call.

An interesting fact is that Sir Charles Groves made another recording of Morning Heroes. It was a BBC production made on 12 August, 1982 in Studio One, Maida Vale. This recording was released on disc in the BBC Radio Classics series on the Carlton Label back in 1997. The orchestra is the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Richard Baker is the narrator (excellent!) and the BBC Symphony Orchestra is directed by Gareth Morell.

This recording was my introduction to the work.

lovedaydewfall,

I have the LP, or an issue of it, on HMV ESD 7153, one of their Greensleeves series. If you are unable to find another source, and are desparate for a CD burn copy from the LP I'm sure I can do something for you, for free  Smiley
