I would have thought so, IRF. I don't know those recordings, but 5 discs would be a pretty sizeable collection and you certainly can't beat that value!

I know quite a few of the recordings, and I'd unhesitatingly recommend it as a stand-alone collection or a base from which to explore, especially at that price. Some of the discs are conflations of two shorter originals, so you'd be getting five discs for rather less than the original contents price of just one. A gift-horse and mouth situation, then, although perusal of the equine gnashers would reveal very few duds anyway....

Strangely (and annoyingly!) that Reich set contains material which isn't in the 10-disc set on the same label which I purchased with the assumption that I would have all the music of his I needed. I don't think you can go wrong at that price, IRF.

Regarding Reimann's Lear, somewhere I have a copy of the programme from the original Munich production which contains excerpts from the composer's diary while the piece was being written, with musical examples including the twelve-tone series on which (most of) the work is constructed.
