I don't know any of his recordings (does anybody else ?), but there seem to be quite a number. Will try and find out.

Did Godowsky arranged Chopin Nocturne for left hand (one of Nocturnes)?

Did you happen to see a recent programme on BBC4, t-p, called 'The Piano: a Love Affair'? It was an endearing little programme with Alexander Waugh huffing and puffing amiably all over the place and doing that thing that pianists often do, thumping things out with their fingers on every available surface as they pass by. I rather enjoyed it. I think the piece he was trying to learn for the programme was a Godowsky arrangement of Chopin for the left hand, but I'm not sure which piece it was.

Unfortunately, we don't have BBC 4. We have two BBC chanels, but not BBC 4. Thank you for the story, George.

Authoharp gave interesting link. We recently went through a period of bashing virtuoso players. I think the audience always loved them, but art community condemned them. May be Godowsky went with all the rest of them.
However, some people are such a sponteneous virtouso players, they can combine two Chopin studies and play briliantly them both at the same time when normal pianist has enough difficulty playing one. One can marvel at people's abilities and it is exciting to watch them. There is a school of thought that music should be entertaining as well as intellectually challenging.

A version of Chopin Etude op.10 no. 6 in Eb minor, which, for some reason , seems to be the Chopin-Godowsky Etude which is most often played. Your description of the BBC4 programme is spot on, George !

A number of Godowsky pieces here, including the complete Java Suite and the Strauss transcriptions.

Why on earth didn't I notice this thread last year!   Huh

I've been buying Konstantin Scherbakov and Carlo Grante's piano music sets and both are excellent.  I've also got Marc-Andre Hamelin's recordings including the one made in Canada in the late 1980s which includes the Passacaglia on Schubert and some other odds and ends.  The Rain de Waal disc now on Helios is also superb - we listenend to it last week over dinner.
