Anyone catch the Paul Hillier recording of Terry Riley's In C for choir and marimba on Late Junction last night ? Seemed to move the piece away from the 1960s California I've always associated it with to a more timeless place.

I didn't, but I just this morning read a rather interesting (and very positive) comparative review of it in the new BBC Music Magazine.

Isn't 1960s California a timeless place? Wink

Well, you, "time_ is_ now", ought to know, if anyone does, I suppose; anyway, wasn't "In C" an abbreviation for "In California" in the first place?...

How long was the performance ? Back in the old days (yawn), performances were expected to last between 40 and 90 minutes: many performances are considerably shorter these days - and so the point gets lost (?) The registers are freer now (sanctioned by Riley) which works well for some figures, less well for others.

Alistair

The "time is now" 2007.

Time_is_now was born in 1979.
Thank you for that information.

As a wise man once said: I know naathing.
That was Hans Sachs, was it not? (or was it one of his more recent relatives?...)

But you may be right.
It's not entirely unknown for this to happen, or so I'm (hopefully) reliably informed...

Best,

Alistair
