Hello all,

Whether or not these pieces are 21st-century in anything but chronology, I'm wondering if anyone's heard them and has any impressions; I note that among MDT's May releases is a BBC Singers disc of "Ferneyhough Choral Music" including the Missa Brevis, the choral bits from Shadowtime, and these pieces, which I have vaguely heard about but never heard.

I'm going to get the disc in any case, at the very least to support David Lefebre and METIER (which may be a futile gesture?), and to see what the BBCers do with Missa Brevis, to compare it to EXAUDI's broadcasted concert - although I have more than a sneaking suspicion about how that comparison will turn out...

Onanistically replying to myself, I note that these pieces certainly are not 21st century, in that they were started in the 1960s (I believe).  Alas, I cannot move the topic over to 20th-century, as chronological propriety would dictate, so everyone will just have to cope Embarrassed

Evan, perhaps you didn't know but Metier is now defunct. However, the excellent David Lefeber isn't, and continues to operate freelance.

Yes indeed - hence the "futile gesture".  A great pity.

No longer defunct. As of next month it's been bought up and absorbed by the excellent if hitherto small and little-known DIVINE ART label ... hence the new release, I assume.

We should all support the return to the release schedules of David L's excellent recordings, and the Ferneyhough disc deserves double, nay triple, support because it has (I believe) liner notes by one of our very own r3ok-ers. (Not me, I should clarify.) Smiley

martle, am I to understand you're not yet imbibing non-Ecoli-rich liquid? Or was your personal space invaded by a fellow drinker with a laptop?! Wink

Thanks for that clarification t_i_n!
And I'm limbering up for a close encounter with several large ones as I type. Er, you know what I mean. I will apologise now for any 'haziness' in my posts tomorrow.  Wink
