A rather extraordinary decision from the otherwise inanely conservative and ass backwards Pulitzer Prize jurors:  http://www.newmusicbox.org/article.nmbx?id=5041

This should probably be posted in the Jazz forum as well, but I'm quite interested in opinions from the 21st Century Music crowd.

His jazz is epoch-making, of course.  But (and sorry to add a dissonant note), I was once involved in the performance of a notated piece for trumpet, strings and percussion which I have to say was not wonderful music. The trumpet part was very high. contained many long notes and precious little rest. To make matters worse, Mr. Coleman sat in on the afternoon rehearsal and asked the trumpet player to play the part on a normal Bb instrument instead of the high Eb or F which he was using. The sporting young player did so in the performance, but ran out of steam shortly before the end.
